The reason I ask if they will drop the 9650 without notice is that for me price is a bigger factor than having the latest thing, so I am thinking about getting the 9650 while I still can. I would be a new VZ customer. The 9930 is tempting but the anticipated price is too much. I can get by fine with a 9650 for two years and by then the QNX phones will be out.

I am hoping that VZ might have a sale on the 9650. For those of you familiar with how Verizon operates, is it realistic to expect they will steeply discount the 9650 to clear them out or will the 9650 just disappear from their website and that is that? I would hate to hesitate and suddenly my only choice is the 9930 for $300 or whatever.

Just get a Certified Pre Owned. I did and my device ran flawlessly.

9650 wasn't on the website yesterday. Get one now if that's what you think you want.

They used to reduce outgoing devices to $49 before dropping them completely; that's what I paid for my Pearl back in Nov 2008 and for my Curve in June 2009. I don't know if Bold was for sale at that price recently.

It wasn't. It's always been $199. The S2 was $149 for a couple weeks but that's been it for Verizon's fire sale on old phones.
