Get the cdma only unlimited global data for $64.99. You can change back when you return to US. This will save you the headache. As for cruise, I am not sure if you will get the unlimited Data or pay per use.

I have been there several times and I was told my phone would work in Mexico City. I did what the VZ CS reps told me to do got the global plan, do not hit *228 out of country all that jazz. I was not able to get one phone call out or one to come in. I started using prepaids and I had thought about the 8830 instead.

Have a great time. I was in Mexico recently with my Bold and raked up a $700.00 bill and I dont mean pesos. Phone worked like a charm but I got clobbered with different rate fees. Do the prepaid sim card thing from Mexico it will save you headaches and cash. Have fun.

Just food for thought, make sure you know the cruise ship's calling rates and policies before you make any calls, even if the ship is docked. They can be rediculously pricey!

I went to Walmart and picked up a $9.99 at&t prepaid phone and calls only cost me $0.25 per minutes. Traveled to Cancun Mexico twice since July 2008 but I did not own the Storm then. Now that I have the storm I have called Verizon, got my phone unlocked and I have replaced the Verizon Sim card with the prepaid at&t card. Calls and text are $0.25 per min no browser or email. The way I figure, if I'm on vacation with my wife I don't need web or email but I do need calls and text since I have Kids 13 to 16 years old. on both my past trips to Mexico I only spent $50 each trip on prepaid time and each time came back with minutes left. This is what woks for me.

I just thought Id let you know, if you are not aware, you can block SMS and MMS in the firewall options. However, you will still get charged for these - if you use these features.

And that is just the CDMA cities - there is a lot of coverage between, as well.

You do not need a "world phone" or a GSM phone in Mexico.

It will work if you get the sim card but there are other ways to get around the expence like a pre paid.
