Please let me know if you can think of another way around this. I will leave my texting plan cost and company discount out of the equation for simplicity.

I have a Blackberry with BES. My current plan is called "NATIONWIDE EMAIL 1350 MINUTES UNLIMITED BLACKBERRY $109.99".

I'd like to add a regular cell phone (not a BB) to my plan and maintain the same number of overall minutes. VZW has told me the extra monthly costs will be $10 to add it, plus I would need to go to the Select Plan 1400 for $120 ($10 more than my current package), since the BB Family plans don't work for BES. Then I'd have to add a BES data package for $45. So, the total cost would be:

$10 to add the line, plus
$10 more to go to the Select 1400 Pakcage, plus
    $45 for the BES plan

    $65 + tax...

Could this be right? I've confirmed it with TWO VZW CS reps, but that gives me no comfort. lol

You are already paying 35(i believe) for your BES. Its bundled in the plan but you still do pay for it.

Total price for 1400 minutes with unlimited text and the BES is 163.99 (before your corporate discount)

Total without unlimited text is 133.99

If its any consolation, the 1400 family plan includes 10 number you can call without using your minutes.

Why would you have to add BES to a non bb phone?

He doesnt, he didnt say he had to.

The bundled plans (old core choice) have the BES, not the BIS. When coming off of a bundled plan you have to add the BES plan to the BB so he can still hook up to his exchange server.

I wouldn't. The $45 add on is for BES for the existing BB, since there is no family plan for BES. The Select Plan I would have to move to does not include BES.

I'm not sure what plan you are referring to, but there is no family plan that includes BES. I currently pay $110 for 1350 minutes and includes BES. VZW says I would have to go to a regular family plan, then ADD ON BES manually for $45. That's why this is so expensive.

Im well aware there is no family plan that includes it, i work here. The price i said includes adding the 45 dollar feature by itself. its 119.99 for 1400 minutes with 2 phones and unlimited text. another 44.99 for the BES. The exact price when you add everything up is $164.98. If you didnt do the unlimited text the 1400 plan with 2 phones is 89.99, BES is still the same price. That one comes out to $134.98

Surely another account could be had for under $65 a month, right? Don't use family plan i guess..

Doing that always ends up being rougly the same price. Lets say the other line went with the smallest minute package(450) and no text messaging. Its 39.99 plus his existing 109.99. That comes out to 149.98 so its actually more. If they did unlimited text on the 450 its 59.99. The total for both is 169.98.

    Let's see if I understand:

No texting: $10 for the line and an extra $25 for the plan.
Unlimited texting: add an extra $30.

Currently I have a 500 out/unlimited in $10 texting plan, so it would cost me a net of $55 + tax total.

Still more than I'd like it to be. I don't understand why VZW doesn't have a package that suit my situation. It stinks that it REALLY costs me $35 to add a line, not $10.

Anyway, thanks for the info. That really clears it up for me!

What is your corporate discount? The numbers i gave you are 100% accurate with the information you provided. I will calculate real quick(it takes 20 seconds) what your bill before tax will be for each package.

You cant add a line for 9.99 when you have a single line plan, no carrier allows you to.

Thanks. I have a 15% Access Discount. I also have the $5.99 insurance.
Please include unlimited texting in your calculation. I know I'm gonna want that... :-)

Very true, but that extra $25 on top of the $10 to go to a Family Plan is kind of a heart punch... ;-)

My current monthly cost (including my discount) before tax is $109.48, so the actual extra cost is $44.99.

    Many thanks!

You know, the VZW site & ads clearly state that the $9.99 additional line is for lines 3-5 - it says nothing about adding a line to a single plan for $9.99, nor does it state that data or texting comes with the extra lines. In other areas, it says you can add a line to a family plan for $9.99. You cannot have a family plan with only one line.

AT&T has pretty similar wording with the same pricing.

    Cute, Somebody's got a crush.

Now if you actually read the first post, and then read the response to mine, you can see where I easily made this mistake.

Again, proof of Verizon's superb customer service at work here, folks. Go Blue and Gay! You are the best example of verizon service I have ever seen! Glad to see you made it to work early today though.
