Hey - one other thing, as I read more carefully through the thread - as far as the BBM 5.0 "release" goes, most of you need to get your heads on straight.

    A) It was NOT pushed out to anyone.

    B) It was NOT leaked.

    C) It is a BETA release from RIM. They offered it up as a BETA with the usual warnings, exclusions & caveats.

    D) It is 100% UNSUPPORTED by ANY carrier. Do not call __(insert your carrier here)___ when it screws up your BlackBerry. But make sure you submit your feedback to RIM as requested.

Please folks - untwist the heads & extract from rectal cavities. Then go shower, with lots of shampoo, iodine & disinfectant.

The manufacturers make average phones with crappy operating systems and VZW cripples them with their restrictive policies and expensive price structure. Consumers win all around! =P

Take out the "VZW" part and I might agree with you. You really don't want me to go off telling you all of the examples of other carriers and their crippling practices. We can start with att with the iphone and access for several apps. Then we can head over to Sprint with their mms escapades. Trot down to tmobile and video access on BBs. So far I haven't even scratched the surface.

The minute I see someone acting all high and mighty about a certain carrier crippling things I know I am watching the communications of a boob.

You been kinda on the warpath lately

VZ isn't bad now with crippling but they used to block/disable things like bluetooth file transfer...

I personally can't stand the UI they put on their "dumbphone" but I'll never have one so I don't really care.

He's always on the warpath - especially when people spout falsehoods.

In many of those BT applications, though, the hardware wasn't OBEX compliant. We debate as to whether VZW purposely had specified the hardware for blocking purposes or security measures or the manufacturer did it as a cost-saving measure. Or maybe the BREW software just wasn't compliant. We do know two things, though. VZW offered data cables, so they were not trying to keep you from transferring things on or off your phone. They also allowed phones with removable media cards, which says again, putting things on or taking them from your phone was not on the restricted list.

The blocking claim had an online life all its own, yet the same people who spread it often neglected to mention any of the above. They also leave out the fact DM doesn't support BT transfers for media on BlackBerry, regardless of carrier and that DM doesn't support aftermarket BT drivers. Somehow, many say VZW is responsible for this, as well.

As for the BREW phones, I'd lean more toward a cost-saving measure in not opening OBEX hardware profiles sooner the cost-saving part I can understand, as what real benefit does one realize on a VX8300 vs what cost?

Nobody makes a perfect phone and nobody makes a perfect phone service. There will always be somebody mad at something with any phone and any carrier. The blame falls from manufacturer to carrier to conumer depending on what's the matter. The blackberry is a great device but it has limitations. The iphone is a great device with limitations. Why must everybody think that you can go find a perfect phone provider who carries a pefect phone that can do anything and be the perfect owner who never did anything wrong. If bbm 5 was official then maybe you can *****, but last I checked, my desktop software had no updates and I still have 4.5.xx. Its like the people who complaina about a 25 year old mercedes on another forum being unreliable. Of course its not! Its old! Then they ***** that the new ones rain sensing wipers aren't working. You want reliablility, go get a toyota corolla with no options and no soul. You want a problem free phone? Go get a nokia from 10yrs ago out of new old stock. Leave the fancy cars and phones to people who can use them for what they are. Remember, you have to pay to play, whether that be with money, time anger or frustration.

Thank you, finally someone sees what i do. This guy averages over 17 posts a day, none of which are either correct or contain and substance. Its like its a race to the most posts for this guy.
8 Hours a day I sit here on the phone with people who still haven't gone through one software upgrade on the storm and I make the time to post 17 posts a day? Thats about 2.2 posts per hour... I'm in no race just bored out of my mind and recently lost some external access.

Why don't you point out where in the agreement for CB does it say you have to love BB? And explain why there are forums to discuss and get help for non-BBs? I have had more BBs than probably most people on this site. I use them as tools and not as the latest kiddie fad or toy. BBs have fallen behind. If you want to blindly worship the platform, I feel sorry for you but we have att customers parading as verizon reps, so my two cents even when it goes against the BB fandom shouldn't be any different.

Yeah! Blame the Bush admin too for all the times Osama does the exact things Bush was chastised for yet none of the socialists blink an eye! Yeah!

Actually, I blame sheep. We have too many uneducated sheep in this country. Need to change them back into soaring eagles - then maybe they won't jump onto phone-worshipping bandwagons.

Come on folks - if you're going to worship an inanimate object, at least choose one that performs better than bottom of the pack. Don't be a sheep.

Its a combination of both. Hard to say whos at fault more without looking at the specific issues as the carrier does test and approve the OS and come to think of it, the entire device itself. However, the best test is when a device is in a customers hands for an extended period. And once those flaws are discovered, I see it as hard to blame the carrier as RIM should probably be held responsible for that. However, my biggest issue as everyone knows is intentional alteration of a device by the said carrier for the purpose of making money off of free technology that was for all intense a purposes, supposed to be free.

Then that carrier bending the manufacture's arm backward to have them give that carrier the authority to do this. This is where I draw the line and say its 100% carrier fault
