So I bought a Droid from a friend who moved from Verizon to
Sprint. He was on a family plan but the entire account/contract
was cancelled. His cell service disconnected on Monday
morning, 6/7. He gave me the phone today, 6/9, and when I
tried to activate it I was told that it was attached to another
account and they couldn't activate it. I called my friend and
told him the issue. He called Verizon and was told that they
won't disconnect the phones from that account until the end
of the billing period....even though the account was
completely cancelled. Can any Verizon reps confirm this or
should he try calling again? I don't think my BlackBerry 9530
can last another 9 days. Thank you in advance and please ask
questions if I left out any pertinent information.

Unfortunately I think that's their normal procedure, probably to make sure people pay any outstanding balance once the billing period is up.

Even though the account is paid in full at time of cancellation?

The line is not cancelled until the end of the bill cycle. Calling in again won't change that. Guess you'll have to wait.

Once line is disconnected, has to wait until cycle ends. It goes in to suspension first, placing the ESN on the black list. Your friend will need to call in to have it removed from black list, then you can activate it free and clear.

It isn't on the blacklist, but will be tired to his account until the end of the bill cycle. There is only one way around it. Your friend can call in and activate ann old phone esn and thus releasing the Droid. I did this once.

He can do this just over the phone? No questions asked? Are we talking the *228 option?

No I didn't call your store... And when you say you can't do it are you referring to activating an old phone and freeing the Droid's ESN?

Just have him use an old ESN from an older phone of his (if he still has one), do the ESN swap, then the droid will be released from the system. Simple as that.

No, not simple as that. If the account is terminated there is no way to make changes to it. THATS IT. You can not do anything on an account that is no longer active. The end.
