I know there are posts within the site about this OS, but I had a specific vzw question and figured this was a good route to go. Is there a way to download the official vzw version somewhere?

The most updated Verizon version is .77. If you want .89 the only way is to get it from anothe carrier

Yep. You have to download it from that "other" carrier, delete the vendor.xml file, disconnect your computer from the internet temporarily, and upgrade. It works perfectly on Verizon, as I'm running it now.

I know that is what it seems, but last week I had to do a device wipe, with vzw on the phone with me. The csr directed me to do it. Then, while still on the phone with them, my curve was re-loaded with v4.5.0.89 (platform 3.2.0.52) the same build as the Alltel version. This was vzw that loaded this. If you don't believe me, do a device wipe on your curve and see what OS "magically" appears...
I did no delete vendor, load it via DM, nothing. Sitting at my kitchen table and watched it happen.

You haven't had any issues? I had .77 for about a month and a half before .89, and never did a battery pull. Never had issues with freezing, browsing, media... I installed .89, and had to do a battery pull every day for my text messages and email to come through, I had problems browsing the web, the dreaded hour glass. Also with my podcasts that I download to my phone, none of them showed how long they were ( 1.5 hours, 2 hours, it showed 0:00:00 ). I wiped it, re-installed .77, and haven't done a battery pull since, podcasts look and work fine, browser works without freezing, text/email works all the time.... Maybe I am just unlucky.

I actually had a terrible experience with the official VZW .77

It froze constantly, battery pulls right and left... I wiped and upgraded to .97 and have been extremely happy.

i had problems with .77 when I upgraded to it "officially." But after a device wipe and reloading all apps with the newest versions, its been working really nice and hovering btwn 30 to 35m. Before the wipe, i hovered at 22-15mb and had to do daily battery pulls
