Anyone got a link to download the initial release of the VZW 8830 Device OS?
Or saved it on their hard drive somewhere?

The software I'm looking for is Device OS version

Merely doing the 'process of elimination' troubleshooting...if it works, a buggy BB is better than almost no BB...until the next software release that works, of course.

Got that version tucked away somewhere, John?

I don't have it. However, if that's your only hope for a fix for your problem I'd say you have a hardware issue with the device.

Nope, definitely not a hardware issue - third device in 2 weeks; others are having the same specific problem - all described in the thread link I posted above.

Have you thought about using the new Telus software that was recently released?

Agreed...I currently have that version and I want to upgrade to the latest one on the Verizon site. The only concern is the Verizon site emphasizes that I should also upgrade my desktop manager at the same time I upgrade my OS. I am using a different version of desktop mgr than is on Verizon's site because my company has issued it for Blackberry users. Does anyone know if updating the OS but not the desktop mgr will cause the Blackberry to no work properly?

John Clark & ldelgad232 - I don't remember the being buggy on BIS & non-Outlook, but what did y'all find/remember about the negative issues?

This is the release right before the .148. The only problems i had with it was that my signal strength was going up and down all the time. Other than that i did not have any problems.

Fbrn - I found the same issue with the signal meter going up & down, but it had no practical negative impact on my calls & browsing.
FWIW - reverting to this previous Device OS solved my "searching for network" issue.
Right in the middle of my install of the software, the VZW Global Support Rep called me & requested me to download it from their FTP site.
So all's well that ends well!

Glad I could help a little bit. I am surprised that it solved the problem tho? I am curious if it has an impact on your battery life?

Well, it sure does - not neccessary because the earlier software is coded for better battery life, but because the frequent "searching for network" really drains battery life...
Hopefully this issue is fixed in the upcoming device OS software release.

Be sure you install the calendar patch or you won't be able to sync calendar. Also, calendar reminders may not work at all. There's good reason they updated the OS. I would check into other carrier's OS's rather than running this old version.
