I had this same problem -- Vista Business (no SP1). When I got my 8330 I uninstalled everything from my old 7xxx Blackberry -- including VZAccess.

In researching, I found a MS knowledgebase article #943996 - Some services do not start in Windows Vista (can't post the link since I'm new here, but you can google it):

    The first registry setting mentioned:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\SharedAccess\Epoch

Did not have any permissions for the "NT Service\MpsSvc" account.

This is the procedure I followed:
    Opened regedit
    Found the key mentioned above
    Right-clicked the Epoch folder
    Selected permissions
    Clicked Add
    Entered "NT Service\MpsSvc" (w/o quotes)
    Clicked "Check Names" to verify
    Click OK
    Click advanced under permissions
    Select the MpsSvc user
    Click edit
Check "Query Value" and "Set Value"
Click OK, OK, etc until you're out.
    Close regedit

If you're like me, your firewall will now start.

    Hope this helps.
