You can get a static IP. It's hideously expensive though.

Static/dedicated IPs are typically used for connecting from the Internet - usually to a server - a no-no on any wireless carrier.

Verizon Wireless offers this and they call it Private Network. Eligible devices for this are:

    Mobile Broadband Devices
    Mobile Broadband Built-In Notebooks
Smartphones - Blackberry is NOT included
    Embedded Modems

The one time set up fee is $500.00

Search the VZW.com site for Private Network.

100% truth. Very expensive service but also very secure.

Also If I remember VZW will not iisue one to individual either, I this it has to be a business account with so many lines. I heard this once, but have never seen it in writing

I'm pretty sure you're right. Supposed to have 5 lines on a business account.

I don't see a personal user paying $500 for a static IP anyway.

On the upside of paying $500, you do get all the IP's you want, one for every device on your account. You can even get them to be consecutive.
