    I have wanted my mobile device to be able to act as a universal remote for some time now. Imagine getting rid of three to four remotes and replacing it with your cell phone, seems more like wishfull thinking at this point, even though this could be usefull.

    Its not exactly what I had in mind. I wish my device could work as a tv remote, imagine not having to watch some crappy soap opera while sitting at the doctors office!

    Yes it would, thats why the remote over wi-fi isnt what I had in mind. Adding RF or IR to a mobile device would be better.

    my xv6700 has an IR port and I change the channel with it all the time, mostly just to **** my wife off.

    At least you could call your phone if you misplace the remote.

    I've seen some keychain sized universal remotes that ONLY have an OFF button. That could be fun...
