Despite the recession and word from numerous corporations on losses and layoffs, Verizon announced their fourth quarter financials. Net Income rose 15% with steady growth on the Wireless side. Revenue and operating margins also increased significantly. They also reported adding 1.2 million new customers during the fourth quarter, based on the release the other day
1 million of these were new to the Storm. The aquisition of Alltel and their FIOS/broadband division has also been a big contributer. Just an FYI, thoughs?

Also gotta mention that VZW is NOT laying people off. In fact, most of their call centers are hiring currently.

Just curious, how would the alltel merger be included in the 4th qtr, did it not close in the 1st qtr of 2009?

Alltell merger is not included in Q4. It will be in Q1 2009. The FIOS/Broadband also does not play a part was that is Verizon Comm, not Verizon Wireless.

We did well despite the economy in Q4, a little high on the churn side, but that's exepected. People come and stay when it's a quality product.

The announcement of the Alltel merger increased share price...The WSJ article did mention the financials included both Wireless and Home Services, ie...Internet/FIOS, etc...

VZW is a strong company and will be around a long time. The reason that they are still around is because they have great management. Even though there are tons of complaints about their hardware, their service is bar none the greatest in the nation. While iPhones are lucky to actually get 3G signal, Blackberry's and Smart phones and dumb phones have been getting 3G speeds for well over a year.

I think this quarter is going to REALLY tell the story - I bet all carriers will be flat.
