I went to use Google Maps today and it had my location within 8 meters. Has Verizon finally stopped blocking GPS for 3rd party apps?

I have to admit that I don't know the various BB devices very well so I don't know if your device is new or older. Since the Storm, Verizon no longer blocks the gps in their newer BB's and the gps can be used for all kinds of 3rd party apps that use the gps. This would include googlemaps, gpslogger, trekbuddy, garmin mobile, etc.

I believe since the 1G Storm all BB's after, only the Tour and S2, are all GPS-unlocked so to speak.

Curve 8530 since April 2010 and GPS unlocked on it and works with 3rd party apps.

Since the Storm 1 was released, November of 2008, Verizon has not locked the GPS's on any smartphone that I am aware of.

I used Google Maps on my old Pearl (it just finally bit the dust two days ago) with no problem. I had the phone for a year, my daughter got it new when it first was released, and we never had a problem with Google Maps.

Mine works in certain areas. At home in VT the GPS doesn't work at all with Google maps or Poynt. But when I'm in NYC or Boston it works just fine.
