I have a Bold 9930 on my current unlimited plan with Verizon, I am eligible for upgrade in August 2013. I would like to grab a new BB10 phone when (and if) they come out later this year. Can I activate a new phone on my account and then use the 9930 for upgrade purposes next August?

Yes you can if you pay full retail or buy a used device.......

When BB10 phones come out, you will have to pay the full retail price for it. Then in August, you will still have your upgrade waiting for you.

If you get a subsidized device, you will lose your unlimited plan.

And be forced to switch to their god awful data share plans.

Thanks all. I'll pay full retail before I'd give up my unlimited.

Talked with VZW anonymously and found out the upgrade is based on the account, not the phone, so I should be OK.

Exactly. You will still have the same account features/setting and everything, just a new phone. If you buy a new phone at full retail price, then it won't affect your future upgrade. Good luck!

No, you are not being forced to change to the new plans but you WILL have to switch to a tiered data allotment starting at $30/2GB
