Here is the link to download VZW Latest Software:

    Personal Email
    Blackberry 8830
BlackBerry Device Software v4.2 (updated 5/30/2008)
    OS v4.2.2.196 (Platform 3.0.0.84)

    http://hsqa2.verizonwireless.com/download/8830EFS_PBr4[1].2.2_rel364_PL3.0.0.84_A4.2.2.196.exe

This morning I spent 2 1/2 hours trying to figure out why I kept getting an Error 404 when navigating through VZW website for a software update.

Turns out there is a problem with their website and their route to the download. The VZW website tries to download it from:

    http://mobile.vzw.com/download/8830EFS_PBr4[1].2.2_rel364_PL3.0.0.84_A4.2.2.196.exe.

This is the wrong server. It needs to be downloaded from hsqa2.verizonwireless.com, not mobile.vzw.com.

Hope this saves somebody a lot of time.

Must be a problem with just you. No problems here.

I normally use this site: BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites which for Verizon leads to: BlackBerry Software Updates

I have not had any problem with several OS downloads from this site. I just checked it and it's working at the time of this post.

Actually, it turns out to be a location bug. The way their site is built, it routes you to the nearest server for download. Just so happens that the nearest server to me travels through a network that has a poorly programmed DNS. So you are partially correct, it must be just me (for now). Until somebody else has the problem and doesn't know how to solve it.... then hopefully this thread will help.

Yeah, like I said, its bug based off your location. Also, this link you provided is exactly what Verizon's tech's did. They continued to tell me to go back to the site to download it, but Verizon's Blackberry Software Updates for the 8830 only still doesn't work for me. Then they even suggested going to Blackberry's website to download it. But Blackberry just links back to Verizon's web site. It was an endless circle.

All I'm saying is... If it helps anybody out, that's the link to download Verizon's OS Update. Most people wouldn't be able to figure out what the problem is when it doesn't work. I was able to figure it out, and therefore I try to help, and I hope it does.

4.2.2.196 is the latest officially released OS for the 8830. The latest Desktop Manager is 4.6. I don't know if Verizon has it on their site or not. I'm running Desktop Manager 4.5, which works fine for me since I don't need Media Sync. You can check for upgrades to Desktop Manager by clicking the Check for Upgrades button in Desktop Manager.

A poorly programmed DNS server wouldn't affect just you. A poorly programmed router would or rather affect everyone that takes the same route to get to their server.

Just been in Sydney and Melbourne and have had the same problem. when I called Verizon support they didnt have the problem so they "abused" me by not believeing me. Does anyone know how to get such errors notified by the IT people at Verizon so they can be fixed?

Thanks for the info. I assumed that VZ"s website was just experiencing some problems.

However, I was able to get it to work by switching browsers. Apparently the script on their website doesn't work with Firefox. After I switched over to view with IE's rendering engine (using the IE tab add-on for Firefox), and re-selected my phone model, the correct address was accessed and the file is now downloading.

For those that are getting the "404" message, try switching to IE and see if that fixes the issue.

thanks for this post. trying to un-nuke my first BB. i've only had this 8830 for 7 days and it is already fubar. i admit that i have installed a bunch of stuff, but thats why i paid for it. anyway, thanks for the heads-up!

Edit: how lame is it that verizon has let this go on since Oct?!?! if i lived somewhere that had better coverage by ANY other provider i would never give verizon another dime.
