Is the 5g cap for both BB and tethering? How do they know when you are tethering or using your BB data on your phone.

Well I should say I know the data on your phone is not 5g limit, but how can they tell it is tethering or just phone data? I want to tether but don't want the 5g limit to be for both

It is the way the way the device connects to the network. 5GB will not be counted when it is from the device

One other question. How hard I'd it to hit the 5g limit for general surfing/emailing. I don't do much video watching or music.

Very hard. But also watch your windows, virus scanner updates. This also uses your data alotment. Most folks do not think of this

Useful in your clients' offices. DO NOT use THEIR internet connections. VZN is pretty bullet-proof. I just don't see you slapping up against 5Gs. Correct me if I'm RONG, but I think when you are tethering you are INSIDE the RIM uber-firewall and when you are surfing, emailing, messaging you are OUTSIDE.

When you tether you're phone is making a call via the evdo data connection and opening a port to your compter like a modem, your blackberry has its own connection to vz network that is always connected and is different. There is no limit on data on the phone, there is 5GB when tethering, this is because you can do more severe data usage with a computer then a phone, plus you have software restrictions on what you can download with a blackberry.

Ive had my Berry tethered about half a month now. I havent had an internet connection in 2 years I used "almost" 300 mb in half a month. that was after a lot of you-tubing and surfing....just seeing what the connection would do. Im happy but the speed confuses me. ive had it as high as 1000 mbps and sometime 650mbps. I can stream audio (pandora is the greates thing ever) and you tube no problem but the high HD quality you-tube videos I have trouble getting to buffer. I just cant see with normal surfing that you could reach the 5Gb limit.

in the VZAccess manager you can check your usage throughout the month to see how you are doing.. if you approach the 5gb then just stop until the next month

I have an unlimited BlackBerry plan, so I'm paying an additional $15 to Verizon to add the 5G/month tethering service. I won't come anywhere near that limit. I only tether while traveling.

Depends on your data plan on the device. Tethering can be added and removed as needed. no need to pay for it full time if you only need it for traveling.

    29.99 data plan - tether 30
    44.99 data plan - tether 15
