I have an 8330 with the standard $30 a month BIS service. Is there any way at all to tether it to my Windows PC via either Bluetooth or USB so it acts as a modem WITHOUT paying extra?

I have read so many different things on this very forum and can't get a straight answer so I figured I would make a simple Yes or No question of my own.

    Thanks alot!

I dont know about the others listed above.

In general no. You need to add tethering for 30/mth.

right, i much rather pay a one time fee of $30 than a monthly charge of $15, ill say that..

anyway, if he just needed it for a little bit, pdanet has a 30 day trial period.

It would actually be a monthly charge of 30.00 since he's on the bis plan... and I guess you've never heard the data overages that VZW has spanked ppl with.

You can buy the extra PAM (Phone as Modem) service for $30 a month or you can download one of the third party apps. PDAnet, Mobishark or Tetherberry for a one-time fee.
The app runs like all other apps, Pandora, Slacker radio, etc.

Tetherberry has a 50% off special until tomorrow. Use coupon code tberry50 at CrackBerryAppStore.com

Haha, ok so its a bit clearer now. I didn't know there was 2 ways to go about doing it. The official VZW way and through a 3rd party app.

For all intents and purposes though, I think my question is answered, thanks guys.

The 3rd party app will get you busted, back billed for data overage, and potentially cancelled.

Another difference I've seen between TetherBerry and VZW tethering is that VZW is much more consistent....it's "guaranteed" to work (quotes are because nothing is ever 100% perfect) where some users have had issues connecting with Tetherberry.

I think I got that from a Boy Genius article...I'll see if I can find it.

Or breach of contract that carriers disconnect service over...

Done deal. Someone sign'em up for the 30/mth teathering.

Bad side to doing this is that if you answer a phone call you will disconnect whatever it is that you were doing online.
