    The only effort I had to put in was call to activate the global service, then manually configure the network. To my surprise, I discovered there is a bit of a CDMA/1X signal here. Once I switched it to UMTS it was quite a bit smoother.

    I have never been to Japan but know others who go and people who used to live there. I am in the Southeast part of US .
