is there a limit to the number of text you can keep on your blackberry or does the phone/verizon limit it? I have a 8330.

There's no limit it all depends on the memory of the phone. I never delete texts on mine but I usually try and keep my email folder as empty as I can. If you run low on memory your bb will start auto deleting call logs and messages but I've never had that happen to me on my curve just an 8830.

From a message screen, BlackBerry button, then:

    Options>General Options

Bottom of that screen, under the Actions heading, is an option for Keep Messages. I believe the default is 30 days, but you can change it. Lowest is 15 days, followed by 30 days, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 months, then Forever.

Set it to your liking, then save.

4000 texts? I always just delete mine when I am done. I have too many apps on mine to keep tons of anything. Well, I don't think I will ever have that many texts.

I am too lazy to always remember to delete. I have mine set at 30 days, then save the ones I don't want the OS to age off.

While in your "messages" folder, press the Blackberry menu button, then Options -> General Options -> Keep Messages is my last option.

Exactly - you will not find it in your phone Options menu - from Messages screen.
