I am hoping this is a simple question...

I have a Verizon 8830 and had the SIM unlock for GSM roaming. I know that the services are locked to CDMA services in the home area. But if I am in roaming Canada, where CDMA is available, is that still the case?

The reason I ask is because I currently have another acct with Rogers and it would be convenient to use my SIM in my 8830 when I am in Canada.

    Thanks in advance.

Verizon offers a plan that allows you to use the phone in Canada using CDMA, which is what I have. You wont be able to use Rogers Wireless service however because they are GSM and the 8830 does not support the frequencies that you will need to access Rogers. Canada uses 1900/850 MHz just like the US for GSM. The GSM part of your phone is dual band supporting 1800/900 MHz where the CDMA part supports 1900/800MHz.

Contact Verizon and tell them you are travelling overseas and would like to get the GSM portion unlocked to use prepaid sim cards in it.
