You NEED internet on your fancy phone? What about the library to check emails and do corispondence? You MUST check your email every minute of everyday? Go to the library in the morning and afternoon before they close..
First off, I am not generation ME. 2nd, our small town library isn't open every day. 3rd, yes not responding in 10 minutes can miss getting $300 for a soccer game - husband is an official.

You don't know me. You have no right to judge me and my family. Again for some, it is a necessity.

The economic times aren't as bad as we keep hearing. Besides, the telcos aren't really feeling any measurable effects. People feel their phones are necessary (they aren't) and will cut other things before they cut their phone service.

Besides, what is the real difference between getting a phone for $500 with $100 discount & getting the same phone for $450 with a $50 discount?

I am not saying that is what will happen but logic tells me these programs cost money.

Does anyone know what the competition offers for loyalty programs?

The times are the worse they have been since the great depression. How is that not bad? A recent stimulus package of 834 billion is pending approval. The unemployment is the highest its been in 30 years. Major banks and corporations are laying off people by the thousands. It is quite the opposite of your statement, times are far worse than most are making them out to be. Its going to be a good 3 years before the economy will turn around.

With that said, if cutting these programs allows for more people to keep their jobs at Verizon, I am 100% in favor of this. I'd rather be given less of a discount so more people will maintain their way of life.

So wait, I currently do not have a blackberry, but am thinking of upgrading. To do so, our family plan has to change to the new one. Nothing changes price wise, it just adds the new data charges. Which is fine since I'll be getting a data plan for the blackberry. My question is, with the change in plan, will that mean these new prices for the newevery2 will affect me when I do my upgrade. Right now I'd get a $100 credit when I upgrade towards the blackberry. If I don't do the upgrade until after the 15th, does that mean I'll be subject to these new rules/punishments?

Yup. $834 billion (actually closer to $1.4 trillion) to (quoting King Hussein of America in his address the other night) "save or create four million jobs" after Queen Nancy of California said that without this package "500 million Americans will lose their jobs."

I heard these things from their mouths & not from some radio commentator.

Still, a little math goes a long way. A) 834 billion divided by 4 million means we're blowing over $208,000 per job saved or created. What a deal! Not to mention than King Hussein carefully crafted his "save or create" statement. Gee, if I still have a job next year, I should bow down to the government for saving my job? It had nothing to do with old-fashioned American resourcefulness? And where, Madame Pelosi, are you hiding those 200,000,000 Americans who will lose their jobs?

With over half of that 800+ million dollars being ugly pork designed to fluff government, you don't honestly expect me to think you're believing the idiots who've been in charge for the last 3 years do you?

VZW is in good shape & is not only not cutting jobs, they are adding them. Any change in offerings isn't an attempt to save jobs or even their bottom line. It is made with competitive pressures in mind and attracting/maintaining customer.

To believe iin what the government says & not in what the private sector can do is not only short-sighted & socialist, it is un-American.

Government is causing our problems. Strong enterprise like VZW is helping shield us from the idiots the ignorant voted into office. Too many people pay too much attention to Britney, X-Box, iPod and yes, BlackBerrys and not enough to what really matters.

Government is not the solution to our problems. Government IS the problem. - Ronald Reagan

Umm - all the companies that shut down in America and opened else where can be blamed. The more jobs you take from here, the more someone else has to try help us.

Maybe you need to understand the Constitutional duties proscribed each branch of government & real history.

The House of Representatives creates spending bills. The Senate cannot and the president cannot.

From 2001-2005, the US saw its greatest economic growth since the Reagan era. Revenues doubled. Unfortunately, spending also increased, but not by as much as we saw from 2006-today.

Bush was not an innocent bystander, as he didn't once use his veto pen until 2006.

The issues we see today are a result of loose credit requirements that started under Clinton, as well as dramatic spending increases since 2006. Bear in mind that Clinton had a conservative majority for most of his two terms.

So what happened in 2006? The liberal faction, with a tax & spend mentality came along.

These same types of politicians have added closed market restrictions that make it not only more difficult to do business in America, but more expensive as well. Because of this, I can see manufacturing going to Ireland with their 11% tax rate or service jobs, like call centers heading to India or Indonesia.

Poor people don't employ Americans. Companies like VZW and Intel do. Make it difficult to make a profit, especially in the face of competition from Red China & they will go somewhere more friendly.

Speaking of China, where do you think we're getting the money for these bailouts? We're using their money so Americans can buy Chinese products. Where's the stimulus at for America? Oh wait, STD education and buying new computers to replace office computers that are under 2 years old. They will probably be Lenovo.

Here is the deal. VZW is doing well. They are not in any danger of going under. They are rated A++. The vast majority of VZW people are right here in the US, working out of mega-centers in places like Chandler, AZ & Portland, OR. Compare VZW with its policy of keeping American jobs in America rather than outsourcing the way AT&T has been doing for years. Call AT&T & more often than not you will get India or Indonesia. That VZW rep with the Indian accent earned her US Citizenship 5 years ago & lives outside of Atlanta.

The reduction of the two-year promos probably has more to do with a desire to match published pricing than anything else. Too many VZW customers are unaware of the NE2 program - witness those who have 3 year old phones - even with all of the VZW publicity. Those same people might be influenced by a $69 AT&T offering. Never mind the fact their NE2 gave it to them for free - while they were window shopping at the mall, they saw identical phones with the big print on the VZW phone looking more expensive than the AT&T counterpart. Most cell phone users don't give a rat's behind about GPS or GSM or CDMA. If they knew they'd get that same phone free on VZW, they might not fall for some sales pitch.

If you've lost your job, the economy is bad. If layoffs are looming, the economy is bad. For me, business is up - the biggest change I've made was to move money into different instruments not tied to government. For VZW, business is up. Like me, they are probably only making minor tweaks to better weather the crap Washington is getting us into. Don't blame them for doing their best to remain strong.

    Doing that would be un-American.

As for Jason's question, you won't be affected this time around. The changes are supposedly only hitting new contracts on or after 02/15.

Thanks! Although I would be doing my upgrade and change of the family plan from the old one to the new one until the end of thsi month, so it would be after 2/15. Since I'm on an existing contract, I don't know if I'll be affected or not.

    No effect on your situation.

The only thing I might suggest would be getting the upgrade BEFORE the 15th. Supposedly this would give you one more round of the higher NE2 benefit.

That's what I've heard, at least.

Either way though, I'll still get my full newevery2 $100 credit on my upgrade if I don't do it till the end of this month though? As long as thats the case, I'm fine. Although I may push for getting it earlier if it means getting one more round.

From what I've been told, you are good to go. You were promised the NE2 with conditions in place when you signed on. The new conditions will apply to your next go 'round.

Maybe one of the nice VZW folks will come out of the woodwork to confirm this, but I believe they already did earlier in this thread.

Alright here's the deal...after 2-15 the test drive goes bye bye.

The ne2 is still available, it's just getting lowered.

Right now if you pay $39.99 a month to $79.98 a month you get $50 ne2. Anything over that you get $100.

    As of 2-15 it's $30/$50 instead of $50/100.

If you're currently in a contract, or renew before 2-15 it stays $50/$100 until you do another upgrade then it drops to $30/$50.

They're also changing the prepaid's as well, but I really doubt anyone on here really cares, but there adding another category to the Impulse PP.....No daily usage fee, Just $.25 a min, and $.15 a text across the board, so there will be 4 prepaids to choose from.

Right if you have a NE2 and upgrade on or before 2/14 you get one more $100/$50 NE2 In 20 months. If you upgrade after on or after 2/15 you would still get your CURRENT high NE2 but the next one would be the lower one in 20 months.

That is false. I left Sprint where I was a CSR(the kind that actually helped people) and I know for a fact that as a means of begging customers to stay we offered them $150 off any phone so they stay for 2 more years, and people who were eligible had to have been customers for 20 months. VZ offers you 100 off and you stay for 2 years anyway. Whoop dee doooo. I reeeeeallly like Sprint cause theyll do anything to keep customers(Simply Everything for 99.99 with unl minutes, text, data, Sprint TV, Sprint Music, GPS and everything else included), but Verizon is just too damn reliable.
I agree that sprint gives you more for the money and that they do anything to keep you as a customer. I switched to VZW because I got sick of using my friends VZW phones when my Sprint phone didn't work.

hmmm...everytime we upgrade, we have issues with the pricing discounts. My husband got his curve with the 1yr pricing for $219 with a $70 mail in...I didn't think that was a bad price. If I bought mine through vzw, they were going to charge me $429 with no contract. I really haven't seen any "bad" promotions or service changes from them...and we've had them for 8 yrs now. They may charge more for a phone, but now my bill is lower with the new plan...i'd rather pay less monthly...
