I figure thats the case; before we had remedy and HAD to get to internal for filing tickets that was the most embarressing thing.
"can you do something I should be able to do but because verizon doesnt trust us you have to do it?"
Honestly you would think that internal would welcome calls like this due to the fact that its an easy peasy call and can be taken care of in 15min or less; but it sounds like someone was being anal and lazy. I'd have called back and gotten a diff internal agent. I bet TS would have filed the ticket... and then come here and given you c rap for it.

Kind of chilling standing on the site, too - although nothing is really there anymore.

I don't do it as much these days, but there is a Guyana mission run by a preacher who spent many years at a good church in Arizona before he retired back home in Texas. He still goes & attracts many people - those with money & those without - to travel there with him to start conservative Christian churches, hand out Bibles & have studies. If you have money, it is $2000-$3000 to spend 15-28 days down there - it is not a vacation, as you often are in tents in the equatorial jungle, but it makes you feels better than one. If you don't have money & you're needed, someone else pays for your trip.

That area of the world is full of extremists - heavy terrorist activity & terrorist training. Many mosques. Guyana & French Guiana are both right in there with Venezuela, after all. Spend one week there & no matter your stand on immigration, you come back wanting to build 100ft walls topped with razor-wire & machine-gun turrets.

Back to the Jonestown thing - no monuments, no memorials, no nothing. The people in the area would rather forget it - it was just rich & stupid Americans who killed themselves, after all. For those who aren't old enough or who don't value history, three decades ago we heard in horror about more than 900 people in the middle of a South American jungle. It was called the Jonestown massacre, but what transpired there was, to some extent done willingly, making the mass suicide all the more disturbing.

The Jonestown cult - The People's Temple - was founded in 1955 by Indianapolis preacher James Warren Jones. Jones, who had no formal theological training, based his liberal ministry on a combination of religious and socialist philosophies.

After moving to California in the mid-sixties, the church continued to grow in membership and began advocating their left-wing political ideals more actively. With an IRS investigation over their political donations (hello Democrat party) and a great deal of negative press mounting against the radical church, Jones urged his congregation to join him in a new, isolated community where they could escape American criticism - and capitalism - and practice a more communal way of life. So In 1977, Jones and many of his followers relocated to Jonestown, located on a tract of land the People's Temple had purchased & started developing three years earlier.

Relatives of cult members soon grew concerned and requested that the U.S. government rescue what they believed to be brainwashed victims living in concentration camp-like conditions under Jones's power. In November 1978, California Congressman Leo Ryan went to Guyana to survey Jonestown and interview its inhabitants. After reportedly having his life threatened by a Temple member during the first day of his visit, Ryan decided to cut his trip short and return to the US with some Jonestown residents who wished to leave. As they boarded their plane, a group of Jones's guards opened fire on them, killing Ryan and four others.

Some members of Ryan's party escaped on the plane - so Jones told his followers that attention surrounding Ryan's murder would make it impossible for their commune to continue functioning. Rather than return to the United States, the People's Temple would preserve their church by making the ultimate sacrifice: their own lives. On on November 18, 1978, 912 members of The People's Temple were given a deadly concoction of a purple drink mixed with cyanide, sedatives, and tranquilizers. Jones shot himself in the head.

Almost 31 years later, the memory is haunting - since I've stood on the site, it is even closer to home.

I keep trying to but even following the steps on bb.com it won't let me for some reason

There's a couple of threads here that can help, there's Kevin's BB101 which explains how to reload the OS, but catching the device RIGHT as it's booting and where Apploader (you use apploader directly NOT thru DM) has unknown pin listed. You need to catch it when it says unknown PIN, or else it won't work. Start up Apploader (c:/programfiles/commonfiles/researchinmotion) directly, do a battery pull on the BB, and connect it to the USB cord BEFORE putting the battery back in, then put the battery back in, and as it's starting to boot, when apploader says unknown for the PIN, THEN quickly click next. This should get the device to do a full wipe and then reload the OS that is installed on the person's PC. Read the 101 for full instructions here

Also ReedMcClay, another mod and a true BB expert wrote a thread here with another method that can revive BBs that are even worse, of course it's much more complicated.....

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...ckberry-32322/

EDIT: Also worth a shot trying to get the BB to start up in safe mode, that is hold the back key while it's booting. This will get the BB to start if there is a nasty 3rd party app or theme error. Sometimes THAT can cause the BB to appear to be nuked, or to crash it every time it starts. 5.0 is not very theme friendly plus many apps have not been updated for 5.0 yet.

I use the reload os article from here for almost every phone thats in paperweight mode. Never had an issue. PK is right about not using DTM too because you have to go and catch it on com1 and that cant be done via DTM.
Honestly the best policy with loading 5.0 is to do a backup with dtm. remove the sd card then wipe the phone prior to doing the load. Its worked the best for me. It also avoids the app archiving issue as well as a lot of the email issues.
