I just did an early upgrade for my Tour on Friday.

According to a very helpful phone rep, if I had waited til November to use my NE2, my discount for the phone would have been $100. Because I early-upgraded, and my account is VIP, my discount was $50. Going forward, ALL Verizon customers will be changed to a maximum $50 NE2 discount.

So, I can wait 20 months for NE2, and get a $50 discount.

Or I can do an annual upgrade with a $50 discount due to being a VIP customer.

Am I understanding this correctly? I can either wait 12 months & do an annual upgrade with a $50 discount, or I can wait 20 months and do a NE2 upgrade with a $50 discount? Discount is the same, on either timeframe?

    Thanks for your insight!

Your a high value customer and therefore get the extra VIP incentive. Not every customer is rated as a VIP. It saves your from having to pay activation fees and phone book transfer fees and gets you a yearly upgrade with 50 off as long as you stay on a high tier plan.

the NE2 upgrade tiers changed. You are now eligible for a $50 credit toward a phone as opposed to the $100 before.

VIP customers can upgrade at 12 months. Everyone else upgrades at 20 months unless you have a special offer to upgrade early. VIP customers are not charged for their early upgrade (a $20 fee).

My advice, take the offer you have available to you.

I think the reason the NE2 was reduced is mostly because a lot of recent promotions kinda eliminate the need for it. Remember buy-one-get-one Blackberries? Yeesh, that was a lot of blackberry newbs!

But yeah, if you get an extra $50 off an early upgrade, and there's something you want, I say go for it.

To answer the OP.. Yes you pretty much get your NE2 every 12 months with your VIP discount. I'm sure this will be changed in the future though.

So if you wait the full 20 months you don't get both discounts?

    Nope.

    It's either VIP or NE2.

So what's the advantage of waiting 20 months if your a VIP?

There is none. The EU has always been $50 and the NE2 used to be $100..Like I said, I'm sure the EU will probably be cut down to like $25 or something.

When do you think it will be cut down to $25?

I have no idea. My guess would be Q1 2010.

Ok. So, until Verizon changes the early upgrade discount to a lower amount, VIP customers can upgrade at either 12 months as a VIP or at 20 months with NE2, and the discount is $50. That's what I thought, but then I started to think that couldn't possibly be right. Very good to know. Thanks again for your help!

Well dang glad I'm VIP and can get my Tour at the end of this month! Pointless to wait for the ne2 if its just the same being VIP.

Even if I did that I wouldn't post it. Geez..

I really hope you don't do that.
I really hope it's not happening as well.

Well technically if you have the NE2 @ $100 and wait until 20 months let's say you get the Tour... $269.99 - $100 (NE2) = $169.99 - $70 (MIR) = $99.99. You essentially save $50 more than you would if you were a VIP and did the EU.

Right if your ne2 is still 100$ then there is a reason to wait.
