I have read through the forums and whatnot and am new to BB. I understand there is an upgrade through another carrier that can be downloaded and applied. If i chose to do this, and run the backup, after i install it, are all my applications that i installed still intact? How about contacts and everything. Is it truly worth it to upgrade. Is anything lost through the upgrade? Any tips? Thanks for your help!

Nothing is lost, all Settings, Contacts, Apps, are completely retained... provided you closely follow the proper upgrade steps as well as take the option to do backup just before upgrade process.

Can someone tell me what the latest version of Verizon's software for the Pearl is? I checked and I think I am running 4.3 - but if I am reading these posts correctly, there seems to be a later version out there somewhere.

Verizon 8130 is still shipping with and VZW has released no updates/patches. There have been numerous OS releases since .60 via other carriers:

    .65 - Telus
    .71 - Sprint
    .81 - Alltel
    .97 - US Cellular

Any of these can be loaded to the VZW 8130

Its really no big deal to do this. I upgraded my 8310 yesterday, just followed GadgetGeek's instructions and made a few changes prior to the new firmware using the instructions posted by someone in another post. (cant remember who) Here's the link if you're interested... Click

I just got the 8830 from Verizon. Device says software is v 4.2.2,176. Does Verizon offer v4.3.0.60? I do not see it on their site? I understand I need that version to run the 8 GB memedia card I am lusting after

OS is only applicable to the 8130, not the 8830.
