my opera mini 4.2 browser all of a sudden stopped connecting to the internet viz socket mode. if i try to access a page, it goes to failed to connect to the internet page and asks if i want to test the connection. after running the test opera connects, but it resets to http mode. as we know socket mode is much faster than http mode.

i read on another forum that vzw or another internet gateway could be blocking access to opera's servers?

either way, i had opera blazing fast in socket mode. this morning won't connect unless if it gets reset to http mode. I'd like to see if this is a RIM, VZW or Opera issue.

any experienced VZW folk offer any suggestions?

    Thanks

if you can't contribute find another thread. thanks for pointing out what i already know. and i am not getting the answers i need to solve the issue, certainly your not contributing anything positive. thanks for wasting the bandwidth.

that thread you point to, discusses how to speed up opera, which i did. now it doesn't work so i am seeking some more help on the subject. this forum is usually helpful. but your not being real helpful are you?

It has nothing to do with contributing.... listen forum rules apply. your not getting answers? Maybe wait for a answer in that one....

This is the main reason we have multiple threads of the same all the time.....

Opera worked on socket for 2 days. But now only works if its set to http. I have been using 4.2 for around 3 weeks. But just today it won't connect to the internet if set to socket.

failed to connect to the internet

click here to start the connection test.

everytime i set network to socket it won't connect. run the connection test and if it does connect it resets to http from socket. my download speeds are the slower. it was great when socket did work, was way faster. but now its only working on http. no one else on verizon has this issue?
same issue and it just happened all of a sudden. cannot believe we are the only 2 having this problem. was working fast, then today cannot connect.

i am on verizon 8330 curve.
maybe a RIM issue? seeing as I am on Verizon and your TMobile its not carrier specific.
    Adam,
Thanks for your post. mine is still hanging up on socket mode. maybe its just a temporary hangup with vzw and opera? anyone else chime in if your having the same issue. would be nice to see if its related to a certain area or carrier.
STrange thing is opera is resetting itself to http mode after the connection test.

Glad to hear your up and running. the socket mode is alot faster.

    Thanks
    Pat

that thread does not identify that there is a problem with opera. the title of the thread is how to speed opera up. so if someone is having the same problem i am, how should they know that thread will contain info on operas problems?

explain how people who have an issue with opera are going to know to look in the speed opera up thread?

from what i have seen, your not really into adding something positive. only spread negativity. i'm looking for some help, been asking all day and decided to start a new thread that actually identifies the problem (not have it hidden in a thread with a different title)

again if you can explain your motives other than being a negative ****, i am all ears.

you could have politely pointed out that questions should be kept to a minimum number of threads. but you didn't do that did you? you went out of your way to point out how someone is wrong and again not really help. your time spent, copying and pasting my comments shows that your not trying to help anyone but just get underneath someones skin.

which probably is an external issue of the many problems within your personality. but i do not wish to go there as it is probably pretty ugly.

can't help, but you'll disturb and detract from the help. great way to use your time and knowledge.

whatever indeed. you will check on this thread again and again not really contribute anything. but you have no problem pointing the finger at someone who doesn't follow the rules exactly the way you perceive them.

can someone help or offer something positive to this thread? I apologize for posting the same questions in another thread, but thought it would be better served if the thread had its own title which identified the actual issue.

i apologize to the other members of this forum. up to now everyone has been very helpful AND polite. this is the first time i have run across such pointless negativity from someone here.

again the focus should be on what could the causes be and if others have the same issues. Not my posting habits. if it really bugs you maybe we can start another thread about how i don't know all the rules. or we can take it pm. but i do have a need, others have the same issue and hopefuly we can discuss the actual issue not take shots at each other.

Listen, stop with the ranting okay. Ya I guess I could have posting politely and said that it's not recommended to post multiple threads or related topics but it seem it would have offended you anyways................ I'm dropping it since it seems I pissed you off for no reason.....

Okay let's both get off the damn soap box, and move on..... I have opera mini and have not had any problems with it changing to setting for socket to http, so i don't think it's Verizon which is my provider as well......But I am using opera mini 4.3....

can the mods delete this thread? what a total waste of forum time to detract and point out pointless stuff.

i am sure others have the same issue. taking attention away does no one any good.

yester18 you have helped no one with your negativity.

accept responsibility for your own actions. had you acted differently things would have turned differently. simple as that.

i'm a member of a lot of different music forums and am used to people acting weird there. but what impressed me about this forum was the total lack of negativity and overall positive atmosphere aimed at helping newbies. your post was basically just taking a shot at me and i was pretty surprised to see that here at crackberry. i apologize to you and just wish to move on and get my problem solved.

i am done with this as well and ask that the mods delete this thread and let me start a new thread in the proper forum.

Have you by any chance messed with your TCP settings under Options/Advanced for APN and such? If you have, you'll need to wipe the phone in order to get it to work again.

strange, it started to work again last night and now this morning same thing.

kind of stumped as to why it works sometimes, then not.

But you do know with the advent of version 4.2, Opera moved there US servers actually to the US, I believe as they make the transition, http is the most stable way to use it,
I don't see too much difference from socket to http, but I also hit the same 5 sites...

thanks for the info. i didn't know that the opera servers moving closer. i do notice a pretty big difference in speed between socket and http. it works on http for now so i'll just leave it like this and periodically check if will work with socket again.

    thanks

There were countless posts in the opera threads about a month or two ago about opera mini that would just stop connecting. You would just loose your connection at random times. But then the next time yo would use it it would work. Lots of finger pointing that it was the opera servers and the opera people saying that it was the carriers issue. I gave up after reading all that. If you have the time google search it (I think it was in the opera support forum)

Whenever I get the can not connect message I know I'm done I do a alt-right shift-del reset and it will start working again. Only sets me back about 2 or 3 minutes while the phone restarts.

I'm sure that is NOT the technical answer you were looking for I just gave up and resigned to doing a restart. if you do find more information please share!
