Yeah, i know, it's not for me though!

My co-worker has a really OLD flip phone. I've finally convinced him to upgrade. He does not want to spend extra money per month on a blackberry-type plan.

He simply wants to talk on the phone (about 400-450 min per month), use text messaging (about 100-150 a month), and he does not need web access at all. And he would prefer something with some type of calendar on it.

Since I've been a blackberry user for many years now, I have NO CLUE about the other mainstream type phones, so I can't really recommend one because all I've used is my blackberry!

Can anyone help me out here? So at least he won't be at the mercy of the VZW store rep

Let him know that LGs get the best reception on the Verizon network, even Verizon reps will tell you that.

I agree with rutkind. If you aren't going with a berry go with LG. Before I got addicted, LG was the only way I would go.

Well, that's not a fact, and not all reps will tell you that. Other than Blackberry, I usually recommend Samsung.

I usually end up recommending LG's simply because they're solid phones, not because they "get the best reception".

EnV's are pretty ok IMO. If I didn't have a BB, that'd probably be what I'd go with.

If he wants to stick with a flip phone, then I hear the LG Chocolate 3 (VX8560) is a solid flip phone.

I am still fairly happy with my Voyager after a year and a half (I was lucky to get a completely trouble free one though). I have outgrown it, but It has a calender and a full qwerty keyboard. Right now its around 80 bucks with a 2 yr contract and 450 min with unlimited in network texts with 500 out of network texts will run 50/mo.

    what about the alias?

I have heard pretty good things about that phone for standard users...

I think the alias 2 just came out that might be a good phone...

Friend of mine has it and she likes it..

Everyone I know with the EnV2 has had problems with the OK button.

I had the Alias before and thought it was a solid phone for texting.

Either of the HTC offerings are great on vz the touch pro or touch diamond. I can't stand feature phones.

Same here. Either the OK button on the front doesn't work or some other part of the front keypad.

I would steer this type of user towards an LG VX8360 (the real upgrade to the vx8300 which is one of the best phones VZW has released. Right up there with the Motorola E815) or the Motorola W755.

Then my longshot phone would be to show the Alias 2.

I've been through several LG phones, most of which didn't work out for me (the ones that had good battery life had hardware issues, and vice/versa). Personally, I prefer Motorola phones (I loved my E815, which I see is a common sentiment around here - sadly, they exist only on ebay now). I've never had a Moto drop a call on me or fail without warning like some of my LG's have.

I'm partial to LG phones. I haven't tried a Motorola in awhile but the last one I used I found awkward and hard to navigate. The one Samsung I had was good for the 1st year and then gave me nothing but headaches. I've had the best luck with LG, find them reliable, and would recommend them to anyone (heck I got my mom an LG phone).

Unless things have changed on standard cell phones in the last 9mo they usually have a standard calendar program that you could input events into.

I'd recommend samsung or LG. Pretty much bullet-proof if you just get a basic flip.

I think LG's phones resemble toys these days. The icons that are found on phones like the Dare, Versa, and Voyager are very juvenile in appearance.
