Reached 3G on their phones yet? Cause I havent even come close!!
But according to VZW, they are the "Most Reliable 3G Network with the Strongest and Widest Connection Range"

Never have I personally met anyone who has reached 3G... only those who post it on the internet.

Has anyone here ever reached it? Honestly?

I mean in the top corner, there is normally an "1XEV" then the signal bars... Has anyone gotten the "3G" instead?

Give me 5-10 minutes and ill post a picture up of what Im talking about.

1XEV is 3g.....Verizon has a 3g network, but it will not say 3g on your phone.

Are you tethering? Are you using a non-BlackBerry smartphone?

If you answer to both of those questions is no, you don't know if you're hitting max speeds or if you're just doddering along.

If you see 1EXV in your signal indicator, you're on a VZW 3G network. Lower case means you're on a non-VZW 3G network. If you're seeing neither, move out from under that rock & check your signal again.

1XEV is 3G.. Some get EVDO Rev A and some get Rev 0 depending on where they are located.

Rev A would actually be 3.5G.

Verizon was the first successful company to introduce 3G back in 2003.

You won't ever see 3G on your phone.

Well according to the VZW rep (cause there always sooo helpful), His phone DID say 3G at the top where the "1XEV" was on mine. I saw it personally.

Also, the "Tips, hints and shortcuts" Book that came with the BlackBerry shows on page 39 all of the Wireless network Coverage Indicators and "3G" is clearly one of them

I never said I had it. I simply said that I saw it on a VZW reps BlackBerry and in the book, this picture is there...

It says 3G under Wireless Network Coverage Indicators.

Storm is Rev A. All other BlackBerrys are Rev 0.

I've never seen 3G on my indicator, but I usually don't look at the indicator unless it's moving slow.

That manual (or that section anyway) is for a GSM network phone. CDMA phones will never see it. CDMA phones (like ones on Verizon Wireless's network) cannot run data and voice concurrently.

BlackBerry is screwed up & has helped perpetuate the 3G misunderstandings.

Your BlackBerry will only show 3G if you're in a high-speed data area AND can run simultaneous data/voice.

We know that 3G is a speed and not a capability. EDGE is 3G. So is 1XEV. But RIM, AT&T & some fansites claim 3G is only simultaneous data/voice.

I, For one, have never accused RIM or fansites of being intelligent. I'd like to think AT&T is, but their marketing department is full of shams, shills & worse.

Go to Europe and look at your phone. You should see 3G then. Until then 1XEV is all you are going to see.

It doesn't matter if you're in Iowa, Europe or on Mars. You will NEVER see a 3G indicator on a current CDMA network on a current BlackBerry.

3G is like saying, "I had a good dinner.". 1XEV is like saying, "I had steak & shrimp for dinner." Some people think mac & cheese makes for a good dinner.
