Yes you can get google maps on your phone. We (vzw employees) got notice of this a few days ago that the gps would be unlocked. I have google maps now and i love it. SCREW VZNAV!! yeah i work for them and I hate it and agreed with the class action lawsuit.

It works on my phone, I guess being next to the window didn't pick up the GPS. However, it is constantly searching and connecting say 5 times every minute. There aren't any obstructions in the way, and I'm outside. Does anyone else experience this?+

I put my folks address in and got directions. I got some really messed up directions. It had me going through small towns and not the direct route. Are BB maps not real reliable or accurate?

When you clicked on Get Directions - did you have it select Fastest Route or Shortest Route?
    12-05-08 12:23 AM
  22. vndlewis's Avatar
I tried both ways. The shortest had the 1 hour drive taking 3 hours from all the little towns. The fastest was still 30 minutes longer than normal and driving out of the way to get to their house.

Verify working BB Maps and non-functional Google Maps on my VZW Curve 8330 w/OS 4.5.0.77. Never thought they'd unlock the GPS on this thing; now to find a decent 3rd-party turn-by-turn app...

    Happy day!

Why is it that people read the post title and completely disregard it?

It's aGPS with Blackberry Maps, NOT Google Maps or any other 3rd party. Gebus!
