I can't seem to break the 700K download barrier anywhere I've been with Verizon and my Tour. Anyone else been able to? What area are you in?

I do the speedtest tethering my Tour and I have beat that, and so have our demos. To my knowledge they do not limit speeds.

Twins provides a good explanation in the above thread.

I'm also using Speed Test from Xtreme Labs. I get about 1Mbps when tethered to a PC and never gotten over 700Kbps on my Tour.

Interesting thing today. I'm not sure if it's just because it's the weekend, or if it was the BIS 2.8 upgrade last night, but I'm getting over 800Kbps today untethered. Max speed about 1Mbps.

Directly on Tour, those tests report the speed between your side of the RIM server & their site. While it is indicative of the bottleneck of running through RIM's proxy, it is not a representation of the speed you have through VZW.

To get an accurate read of the speed, you must install the app to your laptop, jetison the Access Manager & use WinDUN instead. Much more accurate representation of your speed.

Side-by-side, I get a lot faster speeds on my TP2 or O2 than I can through BlackBerry. If you're looking for data speed, BlackBerry is not your best choice.

On my Tour I've got up to around 2.4Mbps before. Tethering speeds should be about the same across the board.

Unless you are downloading Linux distros onto your phone, variations in download speed matter not.

BTW see you guys in the North Valley tomorrow.
