Does the faulty compass affect any commonly-used apps aside from StarTracker kinda programs?
I haven't found it affecting anything else that's non related to the compass. Whats really annoying for me other than Start Tracker is Arkick. So I can't use an augmented reality app. Good thing I'm not currently in an unknown area looking for food!!

I got my phone last week... it auto updated so I don't know if the compass worked prior but I have the same issue.
If you can try tweeting @VZWsupport or @BlackBerryHelp or try the numbers listed a few posts earlier. We can only hope the more complaints they get, the more they will look into it.

I've never used the compass before, but this thread made me try it. Initially I thought I was experiencing the same issues. Just holding the compass it was off by 35 degrees. I walked around for a minute and it continued to be off. I sat down to start writing this and set my phone down on my desk. After about a minute of sitting on my desk it corrected itself to true north. Not that this is acceptable solution, but I'm curious if any of the other users experiencing this issue have tried this and had the same result.

There are times when mine may seem to correct itself, but as soon as it's moved it's off again. I look at it as, once in awhile it has to be correct for a moment . You know the old saying, a broken clock is correct twice a day!
It really seems to be a vzw issue, probably due to the radio file. Since you're on att, you should be in the clear.

Since I've received an email from a BlackBerry tech weeks ago, I frequently send more emails to keep things fresh. So I just got this one, this is an excerpt, but the last line is promising.

"I apologize for the late reply. However, this issue has already been escalated to our development team. however, I was asked that you download the "BBVE - BlackBerry Virtual Expert" app from BB world and run a test against the sensors. Please provide us the results so we may add it to the escalation.
A permanent fix for this issue can be expected in future OS releases"

So, I guess we wait and see.

They apparently aren't aware BBVE doesn't have a test for the compass. Nice.

Yesterday I installed OS 10.2.1.3175, ran the compass a couple times before updating it to version 10.2.2.1 from BlackBerry World. Since then, it hasn't been wrong. Except for the once when opening Star Tracker, there was about 30 seconds of being a few degrees off but it corrected itself.

That's great! I wonder if it's the new radio file. The compass .bar in BlackBerry World is still the same from months ago, right??

Appears to be so, but I'm curious as to why a OS build only a few weeks old would carry a prior version. 10.2.1.3175 has version 10.2.1.23, while BlackBerry World has 10.2.2.1 which was released in January. They both work though, so I would also agree it could be the radio file.

I just installed the leak and the compass is working as you said! Tried both compass file also and both work. It must be the radio file, hopefully it's fixed in the next official release!!

Thank you, good to know it's fixable

Now I just have to decide how badly I want my StarTracker and What's Up? apps to work again, lol. Leaks are fun, but restoring everything afterwards... not so much

I did a full backup with BlackBerry Link, performed a security wipe before running the autoloader. The restore fully restored back except for accounts due to security - passwords need reentered. Android apps, apps' settings, positions, it was all there. Even anything that needed logged in was all ready to go.

BlackBerry World notified me of the compass update plus a couple others shortly after.

Maybe they figured the compass works on every other device and never tried it on Verizon phones specifically. I don't know how it got passed Verizon though with their months of rigorous testing.

So the new official OS, releasing today should fix the compass for all that didn't load the leaked version. Hopefully VZ releases it fast.

Compass stopped working on Feb 13 official update and also today's official one pushed by BlackBerry. Does anyone else have any issues with their compass? I can't use AR kick either :-(

Bit of a long shot, but you might load an app called "GPS Status" now on BBerry World), which contains, under "tools", a Compass calibration tool. Worth a try.
