You need a Verizon SIM to activate but of course they need the IMEI as well. Thanks for the *#06# info. Tried it and the only difference I see in my IMEI number from what's listed in Settings:About is there's a slash one (/1) at the very end of the number string. Not sure what that means but doubt it's a part of the IMEI number itself.

On my Z30STA100-5/10.2.1.3247 I get an extra two numbers at the end when going through the *#06# try giving them that number and see what happens

it's a good thought. But whenever I go to get the Z30 activated I always have the SIM from it in my Z10. I don't port over the phone number, but get a new one. So as far as AT&T is concerned the Z30 doesn't exist on their system as now they're showing a Z10 as my device.

Got it. Still makes me wonder though if the non-porting might be related. Since an activated phone is more than just a SIM, but also things like imei, could there be something in AT&T's settings that is making the device unavailable for Verizon's network, since it's still active. With a port, if I recall, the releasing carrier truly removes the device off their network before the new network can grab it.

Have them activate the SIM using a different IMEI. Then just put the active SIM in the Z30.

The only other phone I have is a Z10 STL-300 which is locked to AT&T. Even if I unlock it the phone probably wouldn't activate with the Verizon Sim as it's not compatible with Verizon's CDMA. At least that's what I read online tonight.

Have them activate it using a phone in the store that is theirs. Make them go out of their way to help, the phone is Verizon branded this is their problem.

I had given thought to that. After it's activated I could pop the SIM into my phone and it should work, right? May give that a shot, thanks!

Yes with Verizon the service is tied to the SIM and the IMEI only matters for initially activating that SIM and for determining what plans are offered (phone vs tablet, etc).

If the phone doesn't work when an active Verizon SIM is installed then it is a larger issue.

This actually worked, thanks VERY much!! The rep, who was extremely helpful, was about to give up when I asked him to please activate the SIM in a different phone. He seemed hesitant to do it (it was actually the very first thing I asked when entering the store). Finally he pulls out a Galaxy S5, activates the SIM, pops it into my phone....and voila!! Instant activation!

Not sure why it wouldn't do so on it's own, but it doesn't matter. I truly appreciate all the help on this from everyone. It was driving me crazy and completely had some very knowledgeable reps at Verizon baffled. So nice to see LTE on my Z30 now.

I know some guys just want to see a championship team in their town before they die, but for geeks like me it was LTE on my phone. Not having it was always a bit of a disappointment since the Z30 is such a great device, best all touch BlackBerry there is.
