It's 9:05pm. Only my Storm2 is being affected by the dreaded Bing Only virus. My wife's 8330 & son's 9530 both have all their normal search options including Google.

Ok, if people are really ticked off and are serious about this, don't write to Verizon yelling at them because they really do not give a crap about the consumer instead do the following:

    1. Submit a complaint to the FTC via their website: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

    2. Write a letter to Verizon letting them know that you submitted a complaint to the FTC regarding this.

Seriously, this is why the FTC is there for when companies pull this crap. There is already an investigation by the FTC wanting to know why Verizon charges high fees for early terminations and why Verizon does not pro rate the fee as time passes. I am sure the FTC would love to throw another investigation on top of that on why Verizon is selling phones one way and then changing them on the fly without ANY notice to their users. They should have changed our wallpaper on our phones to "Surprised, you've been Binged!".

The more complaints the FTC receives regarding a problem, the more serious they will take it. Start hitting that website and flood them with complaints about this, I know I already did.

Called Verizon and talked to a very nice rep, who had me resend service books, battery pull...I have also went from the beta os back to .328 still only had bing, and then went back to the beta .428 still had bing, the rep tole me to go to this page Enter your location and about half way down there is "Send Email". He told me to explain my situation and what we had gone through on my phone and complain. He informed me that this would be the best way to be heard and hopefully something would be done.
Maybe by flooding their inbox we can get rid of this POS Bing and get Google back

Well, since Verizon sold our ability to choose, when do you think they will start passing on those $$$$ to the customers. They reduced our service and just expect us to just take it up the @ss.

This really is a load of crap. Live search was already on there. They could have just swapped it for Bing or whatever marketing gimmick they come up with for their inferior product.

And people, seriously, what's with the socialism/leftist comments. If anything this is a fascist move; you know, corporate/business interests controlling society.

You sir are missing the point. Who cares if Obama or Googles CEO are "buddies". The point is Verizon IS TAKING AWAY OUR CHOICE ON OUR HARDWARE THAT WE BOUGHT WITH NO NOTICE AND NO WAY TO CHANGE AND MAKE OUR OWN CHOICE OF WHICH SEARCH ENGINE TO USE!

Can it get any simpler to comprehend? And this goes to not just you, but all the other people that say "no big deal". You bet your *** it's a big deal. It's call socialism at it's finest.
To your point the whole thing seems very Obama/Pelosi/left wing socialist Democrat like. But like I said I don't like anything Google for the same reason.

Part of our problem is that people are reporting that Verizon has made Bing our default search engine in the quicksearch box. They have made it our only search engine.

Until it is reported EXACTLY as it really is, no one is going to care... they automatically think that we can just use the drop down box to change it.

I've already sent my complaint to Verizon. I will also send my complaint to the FTC. Thanks for the link, that was next on my list My complaint as follows:

I purchased a Storm 2 on November 15, 2009 at my local Wal-Mart. I've been a Verizon customer for about 3 years now, and have been a BlackBerry user for many years. I was initially thrilled with my new purchase. Unfortunately, my happiness has now turned to anger.

2 days ago, after booting up my phone, I attempted to look something up in my browser using Google, as I have always been able to do. I was not able to do that this time. The option to use Google has been replaced by Bing. No longer is there a CHOICE in which provider to use on the convenient home page of the browser. What used to be a drop down menu where you could choose between Google, Live, Wikipedia and dictionary.com, is now a drop down menu where your ONLY choice is Bing.

I feel like I've been deceived. As I said, I've owned BlackBerries for years, and had I known I would be forced (one day after my 30 day satisfaction guaranteed period was over) to have my browser that way, I probably would have made a different choice. Not necessarily a change in carrier, because I am overall quite satisfied with my service with Verizon. It is my understanding that this has come about because of an agreement between Verizon and Microsoft where Bing would be the default search provider. Default is one thing...ONLY is another. I don't use Bing. I simply do not care for the product and I do not feel like I should now be forced to use it when this was not the product I originally purchased on November 15th.

I've been reading on some of the BlackBerry forums different opinions as to the cause of this. Some say it's Verizon, some say it's RIM. I know that from reading and comparing with other folks I know who own BlackBerries, this seems to be happening only on Verizon phones, which leads me to believe that it IS in fact due to the arrangement made between Verizon and Microsoft that I have been reading about. Some folks on the forums have said that nobody is compaining about Android phones only having Google, or iPhones only having Google or Yahoo. My response to that is that those who purchased those phones knew that when they purchased them. It's not something that was changed on their phone AFTER they made their purchase.

I'm really hoping someone at Verizon will read this and respond to my complaint. I would like to know what steps Verizon can take to bring me back to 100% complete satisfaction. Right now, I'm not satisfied with the phone I purchased 32 days ago...but that's because it's changed from it's original state. If this is how the phone is going to STAY, and it's not just some programming mistake that was made somewhere, I'm really not happy with it any longer and would like to know how you plan to rectify that.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter,

I just sent this to Verizon at HQExec.Relations@VerizonWireless.com and submitted a complaint to the FTC. I encourage everyone as effing pissed at the bull shiatsu to do the same.....

    Hi,
I recently switched from Verizon, and have generally been pleased with the service, support and my new BlackBerry Storm2 device. Earlier today I notice that my preexisting search engine choices had all been removed from the BlackBerry browser and that Bing was my only choice. After calling support and Googling this issue (which turned up this article), it appears that Verizon Wireless has intentionally crippled my device and not only made Bing the default search engine, but removed ALL the other search engines including Google and Wikipedia. Yes, I realize that I can enter Google and search directly from the Google website, but that is an entirely unacceptable workaround for what should not be an issue the first place. This is a mobile device with a limited on-screen keyboard, and being able to access something as basic as the ubiquitous Google search engine in as few keystrokes as possible is absolutely crucial. Although I have been generally happy with Verizon in the few weeks I have been with your company, this is a deal breaker. What is more worrisome is that it may be indicative of a general trend. What if next week Verizon Wireless decides that they no longer like Google Maps and limit me to paying for VZ Navigator? What if the week after that Verizon decides I shouldn't be able to use Pandora and forces me to use Slacker? This is an unacceptable business practice, and as your own attorneys can tell you, by selling a device with a certain set of features and later removing those features you are also exposing Verizon Wireless to a great deal of product liability. I will be terminating my service and returning my BlackBerry before the end of my trial period if this is not corrected before then.

One of the most valuable posts in this thread

Like he said...Verizon is not stupid...they knew we were going to be pissed/caught off guard....submitting a complaint to them is only making the bigwigs go "ah, man we thought no one would notice, oh well, we wont lose customers over a search preference" ....

Submit a claim to the FTC and have its fungus infested feet stomp all over Verizon

I'm going to vote with my wallet. I checked with Technical support at Verizon. They are all aware of this now, and not too happy about it either. They feel as raped as I do.

However, I could give a flip at this point. I've had the Storm2 for 28 days, and it's going back tomorrow. Good bye Blackberry. Sorry to say, goodbye Crackberry too.

    Verizon sucks mountain oysters.
