    Hi all,
    I am in the market to replace my personal BlackBerry on Verizon and I need help making a decision. Do I go with the Curve 8530 or jump up to the Tour 9630. I currently have the Curve 8330. My girlfriend has the Tour and it seems like it has some software troubles (although, I believe she needs to update the software ). The new 8530 looks like a clean device and I LOVE the trackpads.
    I also have an AT&T Bold 9700 for work, which is an amazing device in power, design, and use. I am thinking the 8530 may be a lightweight version of that with similar characteristics?
    Beyond standard email (3 gmail accounts), SMS, MMS, and phone I don't use too many Apps on my personal device - facebook, ubertwitter, google maps, bbm, and pandora being the main ones.
    Also, do both the Tour and 8530 have true 3G on Verizon? The 8530 says "3G network access" which leads me to believe that it is a 3G smartphone, but it seems kind of vague in the description and specs.
    Thanks for any input or comparisons between the two!

    If your using a 9700 then the 8530 will be a noticeable downgrade. Get the 9650 when Verizon releases it soon.

    8530=Trackpad, Wifi
    9630=Global Phone, Trackball

    i have the VZW 9630 (unlocked) because i want a global BlackBerry. i like the trackball and i don't have any hardware issues. i have a software issue (browser click) because i choose to stay with officially released OSs from VZW. You can load another carriers OS onto your 9630 if you want.

    Both are EVDO, which is 3G. The 9630 is at a good price right now. Just depends on what features are important to you, Curve or Tour.

    The new Bold is new and more expensive. If you have the $, get the Bold. It combines the features of the two other BlackBerry phones.

    Any idea of pricing/release date on the 9650? My guess is that it will be around $200 with contract, whereas I can pick up the 8530 for $30....

    Around $200 after MIR with 2 year contract extension. Released before June 30th is all we know. i agree with you. i'd save the $ and get a Curve or Tour.

    The Droid Incredible is VZW's best phone right now. Are you sure you want a BB?

    Assuming you will get a two-year agreement, you should really wait a few weeks for the new bold as others are suggesting. The Tour may not run the vastly improved OS 6.0 that is going to be released this summer, but we're almost sure the Bold will.

    The word "best" is VERY subjective.

    On what are you basing that assessment?

    Curve 8530 + Tour 9630 = Bold 9650!

    If your strictly choosing between the two, the 8530 is best. Its lightweight, WiFi is amazing, OS on it is very stable and the keyboard is great! The fact that there is no flash is a downer though.

    The 8530 is a newer model than the 9630. It has Wi-Fi and a trackpad (trackballs on 9630s have had issues). The 9630 is near the end of its life. Soon, they will not be sold. There also have been issues with the OS on the 9630. If I had to choose either the 8530 or 9630, I would take the 8530. Lack of a camera flash would not bother me, since I have a nice camera.

    The 8530 might be newer than the 9630 but it has fewer and lower quality features than the 9630 for the most part.

    The screen is a much lower resolution. The camera is of lower quality. The lack of flash is an issue for most people.

    WiFi would be a plus for some people. It might not add much for many people.

    Early 9630 released units had trackball issues. Later ones did not.

    Most of the OS issues on the 9630 have been fixed with later releases.

    The 8530 might be a good starter BlackBerry for those who are new to BlackBerry.

    The OS still is an issue on the 9630 for some people. http://forums.crackberry.com/f141/so...p-call-447088/

    Speed, app support, performance, software reliability and improvement over time. Completely blows it away. I'd go as far to say it's a better device than the iphone 3gs.

    We haven't seen enough of OS 6.0 right now. So unless you send a million emails and need that physical keyboard, go with the incredible.

    I'm glad I waited - the Bold 9650 looks like a solid device. Plus Verizon is doing buy 1, get 1 free on them right now, so it's $150 for 2 to renew.

    I did look at the Droid Incredible, as I have a BB 9700 already for work. I'm going to order the 9650 today though due to one main reason - the Incredible's battery life is NOT incredible!! Not jumping the BB ship yet, and if OS 6.0 is amazing, maybe I never will....
