Apple iPhone for Verizon on its way by end of year – Consumer Talk – Sun-Sentinel

Apple has announced it will release a Verizon-ready iPhone by the end of the year, opening the door for Verizon Wireless to begin selling the iPhone by early 2011.

Will it look different? Not likely. The big news is the iPhone will not be stuck with only one carrier. Currently AT&T has exclusive rights to the iPhone and has had it since iPhone was release in 2007, but the carrier has taken a lot of heat for connection problems related to overwhelming numbers of iPhone users taxing the system. Plus consumers demand choice, so opening the iPhone to another reputable carrier makes common sense.

The Wall Street Journal reports the Verizon-ready iPhone will look the same but internally it will use CDMA technology which will allow it to work with Verizons network.

Rumors are circulating that the iPhone 5.0 (no release date yet offered) will boast a new design. But we should expect that.

Now the questions are: Will current iPhone users flock away from AT&T and jump on the Verizon ship? Will Verizon offer cheaper plans? If so, will AT&T follow suit by dropping its prices? And most of all, will we see a return to unlimited data plans, which AT&T once offered?

There was a survey done (I don't remember who conducted it) a while back and found about half the AT&T iPhone customer's would switch to Verizon if Verizon got an iPhone.

BTW, this news has already been posted a couple different times.

Nothing on Apple's page about it.
