right now i have unlimited IN and 500 outside the network for friends on other networks for $10...
unlimited texts IN and OUT is $20 i know it doesnt seem like much but i barely use the 500 because most of my friends are verizon customers so they fall on the unlimited side but if i were to use this app and it was sms vs data then i know i will def go over...
I better check my text package im almost positive the guy at verizon told me i had unlimited to anyone for the 10..

The $10 message plan is unlimited VERIZON to VERIZON. And 500 out of network messages.

Well its' the same type and build as Yahoo and Google Talk that comes from RIM, so I would almost be positive it's uses Data. And It's not the VZW app from their home page.
Correct, the IM apps offered thru mobile.blackberry.com are RIM's apps not carrier's versions... and all RIM's IM apps have historically used data not SMS. I see no reason why RIM's newly offered AIM app would be any different.

    Working fine for me:

    mobile.blackberry.com
    Under "What's Hot"
    Instant Messaging for BlackBerry Smartphones
click Search to bring you to the available app list with their download links.

This really makes me happy! In the past it hasn't been available to the Curve or the Pearl but now it is! The IM that comes on the phone is pretty lame and works poorly. Yay for RIM!

It really is fantastic to finally have something that should have been free, as free. I loved Jivetalk's trial but $30 was too hard to swallow. This is what we needed.

Sweet! I was wondering about this stuff last night when I really needed AIM up on my phone.

Originally, you couldn't get it with a VZW 8830. Now it works great! AIM, and MSN!
