I have been bugging my IT guy forever about a new OS for my 8830 (currently running 4.2). In any case, he claims i just go to verizon.com, and download what they have. I wanted to come to the real experts... i only see a patch upgrade for the little bugs the phone has. I dont see a way to upgrade the OS.

Also, is connecting to Desktop Manager the only way to install updates, even though verizon says to contact my IT dept. I dont want to screw up my BES connection... any thoughts?

You've come to the right place. The latest official OS for the 8830 is The only OS 4.5's are betas. I don't recommend you install a beta OS.

If you install while connected to a computer that's on your corporate network, you won't lose your BES activation. If you do the upgrade at home, you will have to get your IT dept to reactivate you. You do have to use Desktop Manager.

Note too that the advanced features of OS 4.5 require your BES to be at v4.1 or newer.
