For me the big hullaballoo on the LTE/4G thing is not something I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for. There's many people who will benefit from 4G but I'm not one of them. This article give some really good reasons why I'm not cheering on nor breathlessly awaiting 4G:

Phone Buyer Beware: 4G May Not Be For You

I don't want a 4G phone because it sounds like I'm then required to pay for 4G service which even if it was available in my area, I wouldn't want and don't need anyway. Not only do I not need it I sure don't want to pay the extra $ it will cost to have it. It's definitely not right for cell providers to make paying for 4G mandatory if it's a feature you don't want. Surely there has to be a way for them to provide 4G only to those who want it? Are new phones required to be backwards compatible?

Have all cell phone makers abandoned making smartphones for 3G networks? Are all new smartphones being released mandatory 4G? My concern is that when RIMM finally starts releasing new models for VZW that they'll all be 4G

We don't even know what the price plans will be for 4G phones. They might not even charge a premium for 4G. Anything anyone says or thinks now is pure speculation.

Thanks, gvillager. I figured that since Sprint was charging they all would. Didn't mean to start rumors. It would be nice if the rest of the providers didn't follow suit.

For Livesamadhi: It seems you have nothing better to do but to follow some stranger around on a forum board and attempt to continue an unpleasant exchange between two members that happened when? A week ago? I had forgotten all about that. I got over it, obviously you did not. If it makes you feel better to spew venom all over the place then I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

You seem to have quite an imagination and a lot of anger in you which you have chosen to direct at me. You've made it quite clear not only to me but everyone else who visits here that you don't like me at all. That's absolutely ok with me. I don't expect everyone will like me. I don't foresee you and me agreeing on anything, ever, which is ok, too.

I don't have any need to continue this way of communication so I won't be joining you any longer in a forum board war of bad attitudes. As far as I'm concerned what was said a week or so ago is done and over with. If my comments amused you and put a smile on your face, then my comment is "you're welcome." You seem like the kind of person who really needs more smiles in their life but who's jollies, unfortunately, seem to come at the expense of others. That's what started this whole thing anyway. You didn't like it that I stuck up for someone else who didn't deserve what sounded like very snide comments which (in case you didn't notice) I was not the only one to take notice and say something in an attempt to point out to you that your comments in the other thread were not necessary. You've apparently decided to make me your target, I repeat .. you do what you gotta do.

Living life as an angry person who feels a need to bully and make fun of others is a hard way to live. I truly hope one day you find something that will take your anger and hatred away so that you can be a happier person. I do mean that because I would not wish living angry on anyone, even you.

I fully expect you'll twist these comments around and make something nasty of them. So, have at it. But if you're expecting a reply or a rebuttal, you may want to be prepared to be disappointed.

I agree, but Livesamadhi felt apparently felt a continuation of a very negative board exchange between Livesamadhi and myself from about a week ago was necessary. As far as I'm concerned it was over and done with back then. Hopefully, what I've just posted will be the end of it. You and I must have hit the SUBMIT button at the same moment. Thank you for your input.

3G is going to be around a long time. While I have no insight, common sense says phones will be released with combo 3G and 4G radios.

It's going to take time for 4G coverage to be as prevalent as 3G coverage, until then consumers who have 4G phones will have to have phones that switch between the two.

But I suspect in the near future only the high-end phones will be getting 4G.

That is likely going to be the case. The choices are either live with your current device or potentially pay the 4g premium even if you're not in a 4g area when it comes to BB. Everyone on the planet would be surprised if RIM sneaks out a new 3g device.

4g devices will work on 3g networks, but probably cost more due to the increased data throughput they'll handle, hence the premium to subsidize the extra cost.

Figures someone like you would take this article as fact. This is based off someone's opinion and is supported by very little facts. Also, they reference Sprint the whole time. Since LTE for smartphones has not even rolled out for Verizon yet much less pricing structures, why don't you stop complaining and stop worrying about things that haven't happened yet.

Back on the subject I don't thinks verizon will charge more for 4G service. The reason being that they launched 4G data cards today and the prices are the same 50 for 5gb and 80 for 10gb as 3G. If the aircards have the same plan prices I'd think the phones would too. Sprint charges 10 extra a month for 4G but their plans are already cheaper than VZW.

do these modems also do 3G if you don't have 4G coverage?

This is a reason I am not chomping at the bit for a 4G phone...while I think LTE is going to be awesome the first phones I am skeptical about. I don't think they have multi-mode chips. Verizon said in the press that simultaneous voice and data will be possible because data will be on LTE and voice on the old network...this means the phone is making two calls at the same time, working with two networks. Not good for battery life. Hopefully it won't be long till they go 4G for voice and data, at that point I don't see how or why they would/could charge extra for 4G service.

Yes they will. And with the upcoming promotions for the 4G modems, more people will have these new modems before you know it.

You have no business being on these forums with that pathetic personal attack. Your childish rant contributes nothing to these boards and only make you look like a fool. My only hope is that you get banned forever.

Back on topic. The reason why I upgraded was that Verizon gave me an early upgraded discount which in the end made the 4G Modem free. Plus they are discounting the 5G plan 20% so I'll be paying less for 4G than I am for 3G. It was a no brainer for me.

Yup I'm a beta tester for Verizon's upcoming 5G service. I'm getting 1Gbps down and 500Mbps up. Sucks I have to carry around this liquid nitro cooling backpack but man I can download porn like NO ONE now!

Yes 5GB..lol For only $4 more than what I'm paying now I could've gone with they 10GB for $64 but I like the $40 plan for now. We'll see how it goes.
