Ok, so I left work and I'm looking at my phone, and I notice that I have all my bars & 1xev, but they're in a smaller size than they should be. Actually the 1 is the right size, but the xev are smaller. What is that all about??

1xev = no connection to RIMs servers
1XEV = connection to RIMs servers
1x = no EvDO, no connection to RIM
1X = no EvDo, connection to RIM

try go to options icon > advanced options > host routing table > menu > register now

see if that gets you 1XEV

Also try a battery reset. I had this happen to me the other day and ended call tech support and the reset authentication keys and has been working ever since.

Ok, so after registering the host routing table AND doing a battery pull I still have 1xev. So this means I'm not connected to RIMM servers. Question is what exactly does this affect? I am getting emails pushed to my phone, I am able to update Twitter, and I'm able to get my Viigo posts. Thanks for the help, and also, anything else I can do to rectify this?? I wonder if it has something to do with me updating my OS? I resent service books after I updated.

*228 opt 2 - opt 3 is for changing phones.

IF battery resets, registering the device, service books, wipe the device and set it back up does not work, then most likely the device needs a DMU reset or authentication key reset. This has to be done by a VZW TECH person.

DO not worry about it, just do the *228 every 60days and if there is a new you get updated. If there is not, no harm done

I hit this problem tonight with a 8330 I got from eBay.. went through several rounds of reprogramming and battery pulls with VZW, including a walk-through of manual programming via ##000000 ... they were not able to get it working, but later I went back to ##000000 and saw that the SIP ID was set to AllTel instead of VZW. I fixed that, let the phone reset itself, and BAM - 1XEV
