I just discovered this, press the alt and then shift button and you will get number mode, so you don't need to press alt before typing every number.

can be very useful I never knew about this

I think they cover this simple little tid-bit of uselessness in every manual that is supplied with a QWERTY Blackberry device, along with CAPS lock.

While it is true that this is mentioned in the manual, and alot of you may know it. Alot may not! And c'mon, even if its in the manual not everyone goes through every tiny bit of the manual. So since this is usfeul, I posted it. You don't think it's good, then simply don't come to my threads

Why would you buy a smartphone, that has the potential to be a world class contender when it come to SMS/E-Mail/BBM/instant messages and not read the book to learn the short cuts?

agreed with mjneid...chances are most people are smarter than you and in fact do read the manual instead of beginning to "test" OS'ss

While most people know that you can easily enter number mode by pressing the alt then shift button. Most people are not aware that you can type the letters out when dialing a letter based phone number. For example - if you are trying to call 1-800-Verizon - there is no need to dial the numbers on your blackberry device. you can just spell out "Verizon" using the qwerty keyboard of your blackberry and it will automatically convert the letters to numbers when you hit dial.

If I had a nickel for everyone I showed this for the first time, I would be rich!
