Thanx for reminding me. They have been on break so long that I had forgotten.
It will be interesting to see how the drivers handle no traction control this year.

i'm dying to see how the new driver Nelson Piquet Jr. im watching the qualifying right now, and i heard that he spun out in practice yesterday. and now he's starting in 21st position? not a good start. i've been a Ferrari fan since i first started watching F1 years ago. my prediction is that this year we will take it again. except that it will be Massa 1st, and Kimi 2nd.

Wow...was I surprised to see this thread. AWESOME. A moderator should probably move it to the off topic forum, but since FORMULA 1 is basically my favorite pastime and I've been counting down the days till this weekend since the end of last season I'll just bring it onto BlackBerry topic....

Anybody know if any of the drivers/team principles use BlackBerrys? If so, which models?

Seriously though..as I type this, I'm wearing my Ferrari Jacket, Renault Hat, and Maclaren/Boss t-shirt. That qualifying session was NUTS. Can't believe Kimi broke down.... I'm blaming the standardized ECUs - for a lot of the teams it's a downgrade. The removal of traction control is awesome - kinda takes away from F1 being the pinnacle of technology, but it's going to result in way more mixed up starting grids and races. Puts it on the driver so much more. I was sooo thinking Kubica was going to nail Pole... a Pole on Pole...too funny. After his accident last year and the fact he immediately came back full bore says a lot. He should have had pole..he went off track on the last lap..definitely cost him two tenths.

Bourdais didn't do well...he's starting towards the back...what's phenomenal though is that Vettel (same team as Bourdais) made it into the 3rd qualifier...and came out of the Q2 in 6th. Getting the max out of his car. Way to go Torro Rosso (as I drink a can of Red Bull too - I always buy my stuff from companies that sponsor F1...gas at Shell, Intel chips, haha).

Will be an interesting race. Not sure on the fuel loads..that's going to dictate a lot. I could see Maclaren fueling a bit light just to make sure they make the front rows in the season opener...and if that's the case Kubica could have a shot. But without the TC these guys are going to have to focus like never before. I honestly think it could be anybody's race as the top guys could easily slip up. Preseason testing showed Ferrari to have the race pace...but they're starting so far back that it might not matter...the aero on these cars this year looks insane - not sure what's going to happen when they're following close and try to pass - likely to lose downforce.

Anyways..I'm pumped for the race tomorrow. Going to ROCK. Keen eyes will note every now and then I work in some F1 talk into the blogs...here's my favorite rumor I made up just for fun....

Research in Motion to Sponsor Formula 1?

Soooo excited for the season to be on!!!!!! I'm a Ferrari fan at the core, but really have grown to have a lot of respect for all the drivers. I like seeing things get mixed up. Would love to see BMW be at the front consistently, would be sweet if Williams and Red Bull could fight out some wins or top podiums. Anyways..I should shut up. I could type about this stuff for hours. Really wish Michael was still in the game though. He could still be giving everyone of these guys a run for their money. Gotta respect him. I hope Alonso brings some speed back to Renault this season too..but this qualifier didn't go well for them. Oh yeah.. I forgot I was going to quit. Just too much to talk about.

Massa and Kimi, very talented team and worthy of carrying the red flag.

Lewis Hamilton has that magic spark that will lead to glory or disaster.

The race tomorrow, Lewis 100, Kimi 50 to show and Massa 25 to place.

The 2008 Formula 1 season has finally arrived and fans were hardly surprised to see Lewis Hamilton taking the pole position for the Australian Grand Prix opener. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton went for 1:25.187, a result good enough to secure the Australian Grand Prix pole position, followed by BMW's Robert Kubica, who took the second spot with 1:25.315. Saturday's Formula 1 qualifiers were great for McLaren-Mercedes with Heikki Kovalainen landing the third position with time 1:25.452. Ferrari's Felipe Massa managed to secure the fourth position with best time 1:25.691, after his team mate Kimi Raikkonen was sidelined after fuel pump problems in Q2. BMW have plenty to celebrate today, after Nick Heidfeld secured the fifth position for the team for the start of the Australian Grand Prix.
Front row: Lewis Hamilton Robert Kubica
Row two: Heikki Kovalainen Felipe Massa
    Row three: Nick Heidfeld

Qualifying has its moments, but nothing compares to a F1 start. When the starting lights go off, 22x18,000 RPM meets asphalt.

Sismographs go crazy all over the planet.

Not even a Champ car start compares, they are already up to speed.

    Green flag in 3 hours.

What a start to the season!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hamilton wins from pole leading all but 5 laps.
Heidfeld and Rosberg complete the podium.
Way to go Ferrari, couldn't even keep one engine going for the entire race (six ferrari powered cars failed to complete the race) including their own cars!!!

This was definitely a race of attrition (7 cars out of 22 finished the race under their own power)

    Lets see,
    New rules changes this year
    No Traction Control
    No Launch Control
Standard base ECU's throughout the entire organization.
(just another way for Microslut to try to rule the world)

OMG did Ruebens's lollipop man screw up!!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully the fueler and the rear wheel man were not seriously injured.
I guess his car breaking and giving him a dnf was enough punishment for him fueling and leaving the pits while they were closed.
N.P. didn't do that well for his F1 debut (How many of you out there can remember watching his dad race?)
All in all was an extremely wild and crazy start to the '08 F1 season.

Hey Kevin, how about a BLACKBERRY RACING forum for those of us who are into ANY kind of motorsports?
