I just got an update for the tmobile wifi calling app. No change log. Does anyone know what it brings?

I'm on Q10SQN100-5/10.2.1.1055 so I doubt it would give me wifi calling and it hasn't. Do you think this is a preparation for a 10.2 update?

Yeah. It's looking like it's only available to 10.2 users. Tomorrow I'm going to downgrade to a 10.2.0 leak and see if wifi calling works. I might be too high.

This was happening before the official MR that put the official wifi-calling app on the phone: people with leaks that were higher than the MR got pushed the app. I cannot remember if it worked, though. And yes, that means it's out there... lurking.

I'm wearing out the "check for software updates" button. ;-)

What is really annoying is it says I have the latest software.

Which is what the phone is telling you. You expect it to tell you to load a leaked OS?

No, I expect tmob to get off their arse and give me the latest software. 10.2 is not a leak. It is deployed.

None of the US carriers have "deployed" it yet. It really depends on whether you want wifi-calling or not. If not you can load a leak any time you feel like it. I need wifi-calling,.

If you are running the current T-Mo MR (release 4200), you should have a wifi-calling app already on the phone. If you are running a leak (like a 10.2) you will have to check on the Leaks/Beta thread to see if anyone has a radio that will make wifi-calling work on a leak. Last I checked they were still sorting. If you have the correct MR and the app on the phone and it is not working, make sure you have a 911 address in your T-Mo profile.

OK, just looked at your profile and you're in India on a local carrier? Unless that carrier's infrastructure allows for wifi-calling or UMA, you are out of luck.

A lot of carriers know there are customers where the service works everywhere but at home. If they don't have wifi calling, they may sell a femtocell to provide service over the Internet.

Both schemes are security headaches, but the femtocell is worse in my opinion because they have be hacked to appear as cell towers.

While I need wifi calling, I'm surprised TMobile doesn't offer the option to remove wifi calling on a per account basis, just like they do with international dialing and SMS. I block SMS for security.

Nothing personal, but you sound like a Cell Phone survivalist. Block SMS for security? Baby... My son has a femtocell provided by AT&T (free) and it hardly gets used. Thus the advantage of wifi-calling: you can take it with you.

There are SMS messages that never get displayed on your phone. SMS is a vector.

You are also subject to silent ping geolocation with SMS enabled.

In the era of push IMAP+ email, why would I want SMS?

I'm kind of disappointed bb10 doesn't have a firewall like the older OS.
