I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else on here but I could not find a similar thread.

I have an unlocked BlackBerry Bold 9930, originally on Verizon, that I now have on T mobile. The only connection I seem to be able to get is edge, which doesn't even allow me to browse the Web or use BBM. Am I stuck with this or is there some way that I can get 3G? Thanks in advance.

The 9930 does not have TMO's 3G bands, so you're basically running this phone on 2G. But are you saying that you can't browse or use BBM at all, or it's just too slow? If you have a BIS plan, you should be able to access the internet/BBM, etc. at 2G speeds.

Right, I can't access them at all as if there was no Internet connection. I guess I'll have to inquire with TM. I was under the impression that a data plan would naturally include this.

Do you see four dots (like the BB logo) up by where it says edge? If not, that means you don't have a BIS plan.

No I do not. Would have been nice for the sales rep to mention that when he set the thing up for me. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

It would be worthwhile to confirm that the data plan you have is a BIS plan. If it isn't, it's a simple fix (replace whatever you have on your line with an equivalent BIS plan.) If it's a network compatibility issue, which I doubt, then I'm afraid this is how your phone will be.

Buy a T-Mobile phone, then you won't have this problem.

    1. You need a BLACKBERRY Data Plan (BIS).
    2. You need to manually load the TMobile Service Books since they don't support that model natively.

Thank you. The service books won't solve the 2G issue though, correct?

Correct. The 9930 doesn't have the proper 3G bands for North American GSM carriers.
