    The situation:
    I don't need a minutes/sms flatrate. Max. 100 minutes would be enough.
I need at least 1.5GB highspeed data.
I want a subsidized smartphone/tablet to sell it and get the Passport.

    The problem:
The only plans from T-Mobile and Vodafone with 1.5GB+ data, include minutes/sms flatrates, which make them unnecessarily more expensive.

    My plan:
Get the Data Comfort L Eco (5GB LTE, VoIP possible), get an iPad Air 2 16GB WiFi+3G, sell it to buy the Passport and use a VoIP app/service for calling.

    My questions:
What app/service would work flawlessly on the Passport for that purpose?
Can I use my old number to make and receive calls over VoIP?

Any other suggestions? Am I missing something?

    Thank you !

To activate what's app on the new device, after you install the App, you must confirm a sms or recieve a code by a call. I don't know another way... so you need a call/sms performing device!
Don't make false calculations. You can get the same plan you intend without the device (Vertrag ohne Handy) and for some 20 euronen less! So 24 months (2 jahres Vertrag) x20 euro is 480 euros....

That's what I made. I upgraded without phone and bought my Passport from Amazon.de

    Cheers

In Germany phones and tablets do not come locked. They are always unlocked. The OP will pay an extra 10 a month during the plan to pay for the iPad. If the plan is canceled before the contract end then you have to pay the remaining balance on the device.
