    BB8 ... Droid
Though, the last BBOS was BB7 then came BB10

    Hmmm, product placement?

Less than half of a half of a half of a half percent of star wars fans made that correlation.
Maybe in a galaxy far far away more would have thought that but not in this galaxy.

Well, BBOS does belong to a long long time ago, so there is that infinitesimal chance that the OP isn't baked out of his gourd.

Still would be less out of place than the Beastie Boys in the latest Star Trek trailer.

Google Android owes some of its fame to the clever name which was made popular to the masses by Star Wars and to a lesser degree Data from Star Trek TNG. The marketing is such that any phone running the os is recognized as an "Android". Motorola helped by marketing their phone but it really marketed the name more, despite "Android" vs Moto "Droid".
Decades later, the first thing many will think of now when hearing "droid" is probably Google's mobile OS.
As somewhat of a blackberry fan, when I hear BB##, the subject equates to a BlackBerry OS ##. So, whoever named the next star Droid "BB8" broke my personal internet. I am hoping for some clever backstory.
