    Folks,

Every Christmas we have the release of several blockbusters, while Christmas is not THE blockbuster season that the summer is, it DOES have it's own unique flavor with blockbuster and christmas special, and dark themed movies. So is Star Wars this year's Christmas blockbuster? Or another movie? Could it be Creed? or the final Hunger Games movie? or what about The Revenant?

I think I'm going to go for Star Wars, BUT as a Philadelphian Creed DOES hold a special place in my heart, and I must say I truly hope they choose to end the Rocky saga on such a high note and NOT try to go on with yet another sequel.

    What do you all think?

As a Trekkie I can admit nothing beats Star Wars when it comes to hype and commercialism. Just take a look at every single product, in almost every store, with movie tie-ins.
As a Rocky fan I can't wait to watch Creed.

Just watched Creed last night. What a great movie! Great acting, plot, and the in-ring camera work was incredible. If you haven't seen it yet I recommend you do.

It is looking like it will be a generation defining movie based on sales. I plan on seeing it but some reviews seem to back away from giving it high marks just to spite the trend. It is all subjective in the end.

    Perhaps.

Avatar made all the money at the box office six years ago, and yet nobody remembers it.

Since Disney acquired these properties from Lucas for billions then we are guaranteed to have new Star Wars movies every year until the well runs dry. The only reason why this one is such an event is because it's been such a long time. It's kind of the like the first Star Trek movie.

Except Star Wars VII isn't total ***, which is key for future movies.

Star Wars was a huge disappointment for me. Im convinced most people like it solely because it's not the prequels. As far as blockbusters go, Creed was endlessly more enjoyable.

I can't compare YET (hopefully this week) BUT I think Creed will win Academy Awards! (at the VERY least Stallone for Best Supporting)

Sly did a great job in the movie. Granted he's played the character seven times, but it was a different side of Rocky. You saw him vulnerable for the first time, and it was portrayed very well.
Have you watched it yet? It stayed with me for a few days.

Yes, had to actually go to the theater twice since it sold out the first time we tried to go see it. Of course I'm in Philly.

Yeah, I was incredibly disappointed. It's just a remake of A New Hope, but it lacks that film's quieter, slower moments in favor of blatant (and I suppose necessary) fan service, cheesy bromance (complete with dialog right out of Independence Day), and lazy writing. Also, unlike in the previous films, there is no sense of galactic order or politics, making this new galaxy seem small and lifeless.

As a friend of mine said, "Now that this is gonna make like a trillion dollars nobody gets to complain that Hollywood doesn't do anything original anymore.
A: Hollywood is out of ideas.
B: Did you like the new Star Wars?
    A: Yes.
    B: SHUT UP!"

Also, OP, The Revenant was an amazing film! When you consider the conditions under which the film was shot, it really gives you a sense of respect for the cast and crew.

    Sad, ey?

I gave it two stars out of five... :-(

Plotholes galore, and stringing one action scene to another...

Christopher Nolan should have done this one, not JarJar Abrams... ;-D

... with the original script ideas by George Lucas!*

(...disclosure : I really did like "Batman begins"...)
(* which got discarded by Disney execs, apparently)
