Question in title. Sometimes I want to post a YouTube video link but I want to start it at a specific time to highlight something, but it resolves it into the embedded video and starts at the beginning.

I unchecked "Automatically parse links in text" and it still does it.

Hmmm have never tried to do that here! I suspect the plugin we use to embed the video does not support that.

The problem is a result of the default embed code generated by Google/Youtube.

For example... if you just want to post a link that isn't embedded, then the URL generated by Google would be https://youtu.be/aIMgfBZrrZ8?t=3m1s. Unfortunately, if you use the video player provided by Google/YouTube, then the generated embed code strips the arguments after the query string (everything past the question mark). Why do they do it? Probably because the the auto-generated embed code doesn't recognize the format of the time-stamp argument because one uses minutes and seconds, and the other just total seconds (see below). So you have to generate your own embed code rather than use that generated by Google/YouTube.

With the above URL, the embed code generated by Google would be as follows (note that the arguments for start time are missing).

    Code:
    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aIMgfBZrrZ8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

To get around that, you have to provide your own embed code with the arguments inserted. You also have to parse and convert the time-stamp from minutes and seconds into total seconds (the above example being 3m1s would then be 181). Which would be something like this (changes highlighted red).

    Code:
    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aIMgfBZrrZ8?start=181" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I don't think we're allowed to do this in BBCode though, right?
