Could it be that some forum software update had some UTF8 conversion problems as it seems old forumentries with special characters like ÄÜÖ öäüß got weird codepage questionmark icons � in 'older CB app version' and get not displayed in chrome/firefox at all.

Only checked on Priv right now, and it seems to be working on newer threads now, but all the old symbols in the threads with "Umlaut" are lost in space making the threads kind of useless.

Example:

Seems to be in all post with special chars posted before a date in 2017:
