Recently purchased an unlocked 9220. Got a new SIM card for the device from at&t. They tried two SIM cards and all I get is red sos in the top corner of the device. Any info on where to go from here would be much appreciated. I'm downgrading from an iPhone 6 to this blackberry curve 9220 in an effort to break the chains of social networking and other addicting online activities.

Well, the 9220 wasn't made for the US market in the first place. It's a 2G/Edge device only, sold in markets where 3G had yet to be fully adopted at the time of its release - 5 years ago.

AT&T shut down its last remaining 2G networks last January. I don't know if the cellular connection is affected, but either way, you'd get no data connection at all, because there's no data network to connect to.

They close 2G for internet connection - voice connection need to be active. 911, etc. Anyway your 9220 I think don't have compatible network bands.
