It makes the Z3 more interesting! BlackBerry should really sell it also in Europe + USA!

    TRANSLATION:

"The BlackBerry Z3 will also be equipped with a 720p display - BerryMe.de"

"During the MWC 2014 BlackBerry officially presented this week before the new BlackBerry Z3. Unfortunately, it was handled relatively thrifty with the hardware details and no one has given the details of the screen resolution officially announced. In the first leaks of the hardware details is far from an unusual resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, the speech. We can soothe almost certainly at least the developers among you but now. Also the BlackBerry Z3 will be equipped with a resolution of 720 1280 pixels. At least that can be seen from the analysis of data from a BlackBerry 10 app. There, for the device with the codename STJ100-1 (ie the Z3) is to recognize the resolution of 720 1280. Blackberry holds so as promised word. The BlackBerry Z3 will initially appear on the Indonesian market and then possibly in a LTE variant later have to be here in Europe."

There is probably a reason for the other rez leaking first, it is the actual resolution of this device and the 720p comes from the devices reusing and scaling existing resources to avoid adding work for 3rd party devs.

it better. Blackberry said they would automatically make Z30 apps/games compatible unless developers deliberately opt out, Which they really can't do unless they have the same resolution.

If it comes to Canada with LTE I might consider upgrading from a Q5 to this.

They mention an LTE model coming later, it won't be called a z3 though and you cannot assume anything about the resolution, this is meant to be a cheap device and them downscaling 720p graphical items might be an option they decided to go with.

I knew I was right about Z30 having that resolution regardless if it's screen size.

I don't know if they really can downscale the resolution. They are automatically porting Z30 apps unless the developers deliberately opt out, which would be very risky if the phones had different resolutions.

That previously mentioned rez is scaled 0.75 in both dimensions though, this isn't like going from z10 to z30 where there is a change to the resolution that has to be accommodated.

In any case, you'd have to assume that the eventual RoW version including LTE is going to have to come with at least 720p and they would then look to phase out the z10 and z30 at the same time.

A lot of websites have posted "rumored" screen specifications but since BlackBerry never publicized official specifications this was still an open question.

Well the specifications are official now: it will be qHD. (540x960)

And this does make it definitely a low-end phone. Except for the big battery they gave it that should have gone into the Z10......

The Z3 is larger and heavier than the Z10. I can already hear in my head "How come this Z10 thing is so darn large and heavy, and why is the battery not removable!?!?!"

    Just a quick correction:

The Z3 is supposed to be sporting a 2500 mAh battery, not 2200.

Also, it is quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS. GSM is GPRS and EDGE whereas UMTS is 3G and HSDPA etc.

    Blargh, Blargh! CB10 blargh.
