Just a thought, but what if there were two variants of the slider, one with the keyboard and a thinner one without?

I don't follow the rumors as closely as I used to, so people who know more may know this isn't true, it would be awesome, one could be the update to the z30, the other could be a new phone series.

What would be the purpose of a slider without a keyboard?

Personally if we don't see a better than expected BB10 device sales, I don't think they will release a high end full touch.
It seems they want to concentrate on devices that are highly innovative. Somehow getting people to talk about BlackBerry and help rectify the companies image.

I consider the Slider as a Z30 replacement. Because you have the option to use either/or Virtual and Physical keyboards.

    What I see happening is 2 Slider versions, a 5.2" Screen for a Z30 replacement and a 4.4" for a Z10 replacement.

But of course, would be nice to have a solid Z30 full touch replacement. It would be a good idea IMO.

From the pictures of MWC 2015, both are the same slider. Only difference in color, black and white.

From what it looked like, it was thin enough even though it was a slider.

I get that they were the same option, just bring hopeful for an all touch device.
I keep thinking about it, I don't know how it would compete with today's ultra thin devices with that slider mechanism.

Who wants an ultra thin smart phone? The iPhone 6+ is proof they are flimsy and bend quite easy.

I'm happy with the Passport thickness, but looking at the Slider pictures, it does look quite thin.

It wouldn't. I think he's saying like the Torch, where 9800/9810 were sliders while 9850/9860 were full touch.

The 9850/60 has a 3.7 inch screen and the 9800/10 has only a 3.2 inch screen. The slider version was quite a bit heavier. If the 9810 would have had a 4 inch screen or even a 3.7 inch screen it would have been more popular.

Chen said there would be four new devices this year:

    1) The Rio/Leap
    2) An unspecified Porsche model (rumored to be based on the Passport)
    3) The new slider
    4) Yet to be determined, though apparently another keyboard model.

My guess for #4 is that it would be the Visa concept with the Passport-style keyboard that pivots out the bottom, but that's absolute speculation.

In effect the new Slider is based more or less on a Z30 type of five inch phone. There is no reasonable need for a Passport slider. Maybe a larger Passport Slider tablet.

Why BlackBerry is even revisiting the slider is beyond me. The 43 people on CrackBerry who loved them do not out weigh the thousands of users that despised the devices. Sliders were the beginning of the demise of RIM. I had 10 of them in the office and each one was a nightmare.
Many of my users want a full touch. I may allow them to use other devices in the future if BlackBerry neglects this segment.

I guess you didn't realize there was the Torch 9860 that was released alongside the 9810. Those didn't fare well, did they...

Slider with detachable keyboard perhaps? 2 devices in 1? Is the full touch component of this slider the 4th's this year device?

Too much questions in the air ;P

The 9810 did ok but not the all touch. BlackBerry could not make a good VKB. No real incentive to buy a slider then unless it was a company phone. The device still had a pretty small screen. The 9900 was definitely the pick of the litter. You still see the odd 9810 or 9800 in Toronto. I have never seen a 9860.

A slider that has the keyboard "slide off" would be pretty innovative and interesting.

Even more interesting... the "slide off" keyboard could be a Bluetooth keyboard!

It'll be all-touchscreen, then you slide it out, and it's another touch screen! lol
