From what I've heard the Torch 2 will just be a refreshed Torch 1 with more RAM. I'm holding out for the Torch 3.

Aren't all of RIM's phones just a refresh of the last one with more memory etc?

Given RIMs history of releasing updated phones probably not since this just came out not too long ago. Why not just get the Torch that's out now?

Heck, for all we know RIM might not even be planning a Torch 2.

1st Gen is usually trial and then they iron out the kinks. If that makes sense.

I would be very surprised if they refreshed the Torch any time soon. They have a lot of other models that need it more. I would expect to see the refresh sporting the QNX based OS...

RIM has only release one phone where they labeled it a "2" and that was the Storm. I really do not see RIM releasing a Torch 2. If you want a Torch you will have to get the one that's out now.

I bet it IS in development at the very least in the planning stage, but I'm with those that have said it will probably have QNX. Hopefully all future models will. Of course knowing RIM, it will take a while for them to fully make the switch, and a few more devices WILL release without QNX.

In all honesty I can't see them releasing a New Torch in 2011 at all, The Next Torch WILL be a QNX phone if they make one, but the people who wanted the Torch Form Factor probably already purchased the Torch, it would be silly to Launch a new Torch before upgrade cycles are at least half over,

given that, Q3 of 2012 would be the ideal time to launch the Second Torch, with an announcement in Q2, this will also give RIM a year of QNX app development.

IF I was RIM my launch order would be
Storm end of Q1 2011 with QNX
Bold end of Q2 2011, with OS6.5 - with upgrade path to QNX
Cruve end of Q2 2011 with OS6.5 - with upgrade path to QNX
Pearl end of Q3 2011 with QNX

By Q3 2011 they should have NON touch screen QNX developed and Roll out QNX for all 2011 released phones.

With Verizon moving to LTE, will they not also become a GSM carrier into 2012?

All the Carriers in Canada have moved from CDMA to HSPA and are moving to LTE in the transition all are becoming GSM carriers

Ok, I'll rephrase, hopefully when they work out all the kinks and release it on Verizon.

Sort of like the GSM Bold's then, or the Storm, or the Pearl, or the Curves, or the 8900 and 8980 (that is still only a rumored device for overseas). The only model that some what supports your claim is the Tour to CDMA Bold. That happened in less then a year, but those were like what, 10 months apart?

Sorry, but based on RIM's past, your claim doesn't make any sense...

Yup, about a year based on these recent refreshes

    Tour 9630 - 7/2009 > Bold 9650 - 6/2010
    Storm - 11/2008 > Storm2 - 10/2009
    Bold 9700 - 11/2009 > Bold 9780 - 10/2010

Sorry, not making a claim, only a question, and not wanting to buy the 1st model. GSM, CDMA and "overseas", is really past anything I can wrap my puny brain around. Thanks for the insight though, 10 months is the soonest RIM has come out with a 2nd of device.
